There are 3 Regional Chair positions available: South West, East Midlands, West Midlands.

Location: Home based, with occasional in-person meetings

Supported by: Senior Manager – Officiating & Regions


COMMITMENT


  • Two-year term
  • Voluntary (with expenses paid for national travel to Basketball England meetings
  • Coordinate and Chair the Regional Committee meetings (minimum 4 per year)
  • Attend Basketball England monthly Regional Council meetings
  • Attendance at Basketball England AGM
  • By-weekly 121 meetings with Council Chair and Basketball England’s Lead
  • Basketball England contact and liaison for regional stakeholders

 

PURPOSE

 

  • Champion and add value to basketball strategy within the region
  • Ensure and promote Basketball England governance codes
  • Act as an advisory point of contact for regional matters
  • Effectively coordinate and guide the regional committee and regional stakeholders


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Provide regular updates to Basketball England’s lead on regional developments linked to the regional strategic development plan.
  • Support, guide and advise regional stakeholders, leagues, clubs and associations with their development plans to achieve Basketball England’s strategic activities.
  • Coordinate and manage the Regional Management Committee to deliver on their roles and responsibilities.
  • In conjunction with Basketball England and their Committee, assess, manage and distribution the Development Grant Fund and any other funds.
  • Lead and Chair Regional Committee meetings and share information from Basketball England and matters arising within the region.
  • Support regional organisations within the region to develop and deliver grassroots basketball programmes including those prescribed by Basketball England.
  • To attend Basketball England Council meetings (bi-monthly) and voice the regional views on matters affecting membership and other strategy areas.
  • Coordinate and chair the Regional Management Committee Regional AGM.
  • Coordinate the recruitment of Regional Management Committee members when required.
  • Provide regular communication and support to its regional stakeholders, clubs, leagues & associations with their activities.
  • Utilise Basketball England communication functions to strengthen awareness of activities in the region such as website updates and social media updates.

 

WHAT SHOULD A REGION LOOK LIKE?


Philosophy: To operate as a unified region which is a reputable arm of Basketball England delivering the same objectives and shared goals as the National Governing Body.


Role: To reflect, support and complement the objectives of Basketball England.


Goals: Each region should:


  • Grow and develop participation and talent with a focus on the needs of Basketball England members.
  • Support the capacity building to develop the game and its
  • Provide feedback across Basketball England and the community on the things that affect the
  • Promote the importance of governance and referring matters to Basketball England where necessary.
  • Act as an agent for Basketball England to help run or assist in delivering key activities.

 

Working with Area Associations to ensure equal opportunities to develop the game within the region.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

  • The Regional Chair should be impartial and somebody with a strong interest in basketball, who is actively involved with the sport.
  • Upholds the highest standards of integrity and professionalism adhering to the Seven Principles of Public Life (selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership).
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to support, motivate and lead
  • Be approachable, positive, enthusiastic, dynamic and energetic at all
  • Have a willingness to work collaboratively as a team with all members and stakeholders not letting any bias effect any decision making.
  • Be a natural diplomat, with strong communication and negotiation
  • Have the ability to forge effective and lasting relationships with key
  • Flexibility to be available in the evenings and at weekends when the majority of committee meetings will
