Quick Summary
Experience in health and safety, risk management or a related operational environment. Demonstrated experience partnering
Bay Venues …. Haven’t heard of us? Not to worry; I bet you have heard of some of the venues we own or operate – the Clubfit gyms, Baywave, or Mercury Baypark to name a few. As the kaitiaki of over 25+ facilities in Tauranga Moana, we proudly offer a range of activities and experiences intended to put a smile on the dial of our community.
Here at Bay Venues, we are all about ensuring we create memorable moments - and we do so intentionally through connection and fun with each other and our community. Our values of Manaakitanga (Service), Whakawhanaungatanga (Relationships), Kaitiakitanga (Caring) and He Toi Tangata (Excellence) are lived on the daily as we strive to enhance the wellbeing of the people we serve. It’s no small feat, but we know that when we facilitate connections and collaborate with others, great things will happen!
About the Role:
As our Health & Safety Lead – Engagement & Partnering, you’ll play a key role in building health and safety capability across Bay Venues. Working alongside leaders and teams, you’ll help ensure risk is understood, owned and effectively managed where work happens.
As the primary business-facing partner within our Health & Safety team, you’ll work closely with operational leaders across our diverse venue portfolio, providing practical advice, coaching and support to embed safe and effective ways of working. This is an opportunity to influence culture, strengthen leadership capability and help bring our health and safety system to life.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Partnering with leaders and teams to build health and safety capability and strengthen risk ownership across the business.
- Providing practical advice and coaching on risk assessment, hazard management, critical risk controls and safe systems of work.
- Identifying capability gaps and developing targeted training, tools and learning initiatives to support continuous improvement.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of major events, projects and operational activities by ensuring health and safety is appropriately considered and managed.
- Acting as the key link between operational teams and the wider Health, Safety & Security function, identifying opportunities for improvement and escalating systemic issues where required.
About You:
The successful candidate will be a trusted partner who builds strong relationships, develops capability in others and helps leaders translate health and safety requirements into practical operational outcomes. They will bring a coaching mindset, sound judgement and a pragmatic approach to managing risk, with the ability to influence and support people at all levels of the organisation. Strong communication skills, a collaborative style and a passion for creating safer workplaces will be essential.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Experience in health and safety, risk management or a related operational environment.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with leaders and teams to build capability and improve health and safety performance.
- Strong knowledge of risk assessment, hazard management, critical risk controls and safe systems of work.
- Experience designing and delivering training, coaching or learning initiatives that drive behaviour change and improve outcomes.
- The ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders across all levels of an organisation.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements into practical operational solutions.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to challenge constructively when required.
- A relevant qualification in health and safety or a related discipline, and/or working towards professional accreditation, would be highly regarded.
We have put together a bunch of perks to support our culture of connection and fun. Ones that reinforce that we are part of the awesome leisure and events industry, and all the magic that comes along with that. Our benefits include:
- a gym membership to our Clubfit Gyms,
- access to our five aquatic facilities,
- subsidised speedway passes and generous discounts on our programmes, services and merchandise,
- heavily subsidised coffee at our on-site cafes,
- access to a range of development opportunities through our Learning & Development programme
So why not join us? We have the right purpose to fuel meaningful careers, the right attitude to support work life balance, and the right leadership to foster an amazing culture. No matter your age and stage you may be, we are an inclusive bunch all driven by our purpose of Spaces to Belong | Experiences to Connect. Come on – take the punt; you won’t regret it!
