Auxiliary Constituency Advisor - Community Outreach (5-15 hours weekly)

The Auxiliary Constituency Advisor – Community Outreach plays a key role in building strong, trusted
connections between the Coquitlam–Maillardville MLA and the Iranian community. This position focuses on
community outreach, engagement, and relationship‑building, helping to strengthen awareness of the MLA’s
work and ensure the Iranian community feels heard, welcomed, and connected to the constituency office.
As a confidential employee under the BC NDP MLA Constituency Offices Collective Agreement, the Auxiliary
CA supports the MLA’s presence at community events, works closely with Iranian community members and
organizations, and shares insights on community priorities, concerns, and opportunities for engagement with the
constituency team.
Under the general supervision of the MLA, duties shall include:
- Supporting the Coquitlam–Maillardville MLA’s work within the Iranian community through proactive
outreach, relationship‑building, and community liaison activities. - Strengthening connections between the MLA and Iranian community members, cultural organizations, businesses, and community leaders.
- Supporting connections between the MLA and Iranian youth, including outreach to youth groups and
young community members, and sharing insights on the experiences, priorities, and perspectives of
Iranian youth in the constituency. - Supporting the MLA’s presence at community events, meetings, and cultural celebrations, including
assisting with coordination, attendance, and follow‑up as required. - Sharing information with community members about the MLA’s work, provincial priorities, and government
initiatives in a culturally appropriate and accessible manner. - Providing informal feedback and insights to the constituency team about issues, trends, and priorities
emerging within the Iranian community. - Assisting with the development and distribution of outreach and engagement materials targeted to the
Iranian community, including event information and community‑specific communications, as appropriate. - Supporting community outreach initiatives and engagement strategies led by the MLA or constituency
office. - Maintaining basic records of outreach activities, community contacts, and events, in accordance with
office procedures. - Other related duties as assigned in support of community outreach and engagement objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluency in Persian (Farsi) and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English is required
for effective outreach and engagement within the Iranian community. - Demonstrated knowledge of Iranian culture and community dynamics, including familiarity with cultural
norms, values, and community priorities. - Established relationships, credibility, or active involvement within the Iranian community in the
Coquitlam–Maillardville area would be an asset. - Experience in community outreach, engagement, or liaison work, ideally with ethnocultural or
newcomer communities would be an asset. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain positive,
respectful relationships. - Ability to share information about the MLA’s work and provincial initiatives in a culturally appropriate
and accessible manner. - Demonstrated discretion, diplomacy, and sound judgment in community‑facing and politically sensitive
environments. - Ability to work independently, with flexibility, and to adapt to changing outreach and engagement
needs. - Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends and to attend community events as required.
