The Electrical Project Manager – Mission Critical is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and successful delivery of electrical construction projects within mission-critical environments, including data centers, semiconductor facilities, telecommunications infrastructure, healthcare facilities, and other high-reliability operations. This role manages project teams, client relationships, budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and quality assurance activities while ensuring all electrical systems are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with project specifications.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Lead electrical construction projects from preconstruction through commissioning and closeout.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
- Manage project execution to meet contractual requirements and client expectations.
- Monitor project performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate procurement activities and long-lead material tracking.
- Ensure adherence to project scope and manage change order processes.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, owners, consultants, and contractors.
- Lead project meetings and provide regular status updates.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Resolve project issues while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Develop project budgets and monitor financial performance.
- Review labor productivity and project cost reports.
- Manage billing, cash flow, forecasting, and contract compliance.
- Negotiate subcontractor agreements and vendor contracts.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Oversee installation and commissioning of:
- Medium- and low-voltage electrical systems
- UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems
- Generators and paralleling switchgear
- Power distribution units (PDUs)
- Busway systems
- Grounding and bonding systems
- Critical lighting and controls
- SCADA/BMS integration
- Coordinate testing and commissioning activities to ensure system reliability and uptime requirements.
- Lead project engineers, superintendents, foremen, and field personnel.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance management.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Support workforce planning and staffing requirements.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
- Conduct project audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
- Maintain compliance with NEC, NFPA, local codes, and client requirements.
- Drive a zero-incident safety mindset across all project activities.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5–10+ years of electrical construction project management experience.
- Experience managing mission-critical projects such as data centers, healthcare facilities, semiconductor plants, or telecommunications infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and critical facility operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale projects valued at $10M+.
- Proficiency with project management and scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, etc.).
- Strong understanding of electrical drawings, specifications, and commissioning requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Requirements
~1 min read- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA) or similar mission-critical certifications.
- Experience with hyperscale data center construction.
- Knowledge of commissioning standards and integrated systems testing (IST).
- Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling materials.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Capable of standing and walking for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
