Responsibilities

  • Oversee a designated cluster of residence halls or houses and provide direct support to the Resident Assistant team within that area.
  • Manage budgets and resources that support residential programming and hall initiatives.
  • Build collaborative working relationships with campus partners, including housekeeping, food service, maintenance, and campus security.
  • Assist with residence hall opening and closing procedures, staff selection processes, and training initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission of the department and the College.
  • Cultivate inclusive and welcoming residential communities that promote student engagement, well-being, academic success, and personal growth.
  • Respond to student conduct concerns, provide guidance and support to students on personal and campus-related matters, and assist students in crisis through appropriate intervention and referrals.
  • Provide education and support related to personal wellness, healthy living habits, community expectations, and skills necessary for independent living.
  • Support and guide educational, inclusion-focused, and community-building initiatives that promote student engagement and development.
  • Serve as an active member of the Dean of Students team and collaborate with campus partners to enhance student involvement, support inclusive campus initiatives, and promote student success beyond the residence halls.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and provide leadership during campus emergencies.
  • Engage in campus life and participate in professional development opportunities, including staff training, conferences, and other assigned activities.
  • Provide leadership and direct support to Resident Assistants (RAs) and Head Resident Assistants (HRAs) within an assigned residential area.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate Resident Assistant staff while fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Maintain consistent communication and supportive working relationships with Resident Assistants and Head Resident Assistants through regular meetings, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Support Resident Assistants in their roles as peer counselors and community educators by offering guidance, resources, and ongoing development opportunities.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and maintain ongoing communication with Residence Life leadership regarding student concerns, campus developments, and departmental initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Prior experience working in residence life, student housing, student affairs, or with student organizations preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, support, and develop student leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience with student programming, conflict resolution, crisis response, and community building is highly valued.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and campus partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse campus populations.
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with students and foster a supportive residential environment.
  • Ability to respond effectively to crisis situations and student concerns.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as part of regular responsibilities, including programming, crisis response, and student support.
  • Ability to live on campus and actively participate in the residential community.
