 As a critical member of the senior management team, the CNE must:

· Participate in strategic planning

· Ensure the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, programs, and services are consistent with the Medical Center’s mission, strategic plans, resource allocation, scope of service plan, medical staff relations, and other activities for the appropriate coordination of patient care.

The CNE uses administrative and clinical knowledge to plan and direct nursing services delivered in an environment where nursing is an integral component of the interdisciplinary team. The nurse executive assures appropriate services are adequately coordinated to meet the population’s multiplicity of conditions and needs in all settings.

Responsibilities:

Establishes the philosophy, goals, and standards of the nursing service and creates an environment that facilitates the provision of high-quality care.

Develops clinical and administrative policies and procedures to implement goals and objectives. Develops a strategic plan to include the analysis of case-mix and acuity (existing and projected) to forecast programs and identify financial resources to meet the increasing needs of the population served.

Serves on important organizational committees and retains records and reports.

Constructs a nursing care delivery system consistent with and appropriate to the client population. Develops and uses information systems that facilitate assessment, nursing care planning, documentation, and evaluation of care.

Participates in preparing the budget and establishes a budget-monitoring program.

Bases staffing on a written plan focused on the needs of the client population in determining the composition of the nursing staff to provide nursing care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Recruits and selects sufficient qualified personnel to provide quality services, sets performance standards using measurable criteria, and establishes competitive salary and benefit plans for nursing personnel. Encourages the professional growth of the nursing staff to assure maintenance of qualified staff and designs an environment conducive to professional development.

Evaluates interdisciplinary team functions regularly.

Maintains a liaison relationship with interdisciplinary chairpersons. Initiates rapport with the governing body to provide input in areas relevant to nursing services.

Monitors and ensures the protection of client rights. Maintains the compliance of the nursing service with local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.

Supports community services and affiliations for clients and families, including those clients who are to be discharged.

Facilitates gerontological nursing education for healthcare students. Liaison to regulatory agencies. Facilitates, collaborates, and disseminates research advancing the health care of older persons and the administrative management of such care.

Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations

Establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures and creates necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps.

Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.

Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.

Other Duties:

Member of Medical Executive Committee

Member of the Medical Center’s Board of Directors.

Performs other related duties as required.

Position Qualifications:

NJ RN license required.

  • Experience in Gerontological Nursing and Administration.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior nursing leadership role, proven and progressive leadership experience in acute, behavioral and long term care.
  • Knowledge of and successful outcomes with The Joint Commission, State, and Federal regulations.
  • AHA BLS certification required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications relevant for clinical and administrative functions and services.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position.
  • Knowledge of principles of teaching the adult learner.
  • Clinical nursing skills specific to the patient population in the assigned clinical area.

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.

Masters’ Degree required.

AHA Basic Life Support Required

IV Certified Required

PICC Resource Person Required
