The Director of Clinical Risk Management leads efforts to minimize patient/resident harm, financial loss, and legal liability in healthcare by managing risk programs, investigating adverse events, analyzing data, ensuring regulatory compliance (including TJC, CMS), providing staff education on patient safety, and collaborating with legal/leadership on incidents, RCA, FMEA, and quality improvement to foster a strong safety culture. Knowledge of Leapfrog requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Program Management: Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive clinical risk management and patient safety programs.
- Incident Investigation & Analysis: Lead investigations of adverse events, analyze incident reports (UORs), conduct Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) and Failure Mode and Effect Analyses (FMEAs) to identify systemic issues.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Monitor, analyze, and trend risk management data to identify patterns, present findings, and recommend strategic improvements to leadership and committees.
- Education & Training: Design and deliver educational programs for staff and leaders on risk reduction, patient safety, and regulatory standards. Rounding on patient/resident care units.
- Compliance & Accreditation: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal laws, and Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, and other regulatory requirements. Assist with regulatory readiness.
- Policy Development: Review, revise, and develop organizational policies and procedures to enhance safety and mitigate risk.
- Committee Participation: Serve on various hospital committees, including The Quality and Patient/Resident Safety Committee, Infection Prevention and Control Committee and Patient Care Leadership Committee
- Quality Coordinator (RNs) to report to this director position.
Requirements
~1 min read- 3-5 years with Clinical Risk Management and/or Quality Management experience
- Experience in clinical risk management, patient safety, quality improvement.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations (including HIPAA, EMTALA, etc.).
- Proficiency in data analysis, incident management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent leadership, communication, investigation, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor's degree (BSN strongly preferred or related field)
- Master’s degree a plus
- Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) is a plus or within 2 years of employment
- Certified Professional in Patient Safety Credential (CPPS) is a plus
Office setting and walking rounds on units and departments
$155,000 to $195,000 annually
