BEST Logistics Group is seeking a Fleet Supervisor to join our growing Specialized Fleet Operations team in South Point, Ohio. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a fleet supporting the rail industry through the transportation of rail infrastructure, construction materials, oversized equipment, and other specialized freight throughout the United States.
The Fleet Supervisor will provide direct leadership and support to a team of Flatbed, Heavy Haul, and specialized transportation drivers while ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations. This position serves as a key link between customers, drivers, project teams, and company leadership, helping to deliver exceptional service while meeting the unique demands of rail-related transportation projects.
This is a day-shift position (office hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday), with evening and weekend availability required as operational needs dictate.
Provide leadership, direction, and day-to-day supervision for a team of Flatbed and Heavy Haul drivers supporting rail industry customers and projects.
Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with company policies, FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, and industry best practices.
Coordinate transportation activities to support rail construction, maintenance, and infrastructure projects while maintaining high levels of customer service.
Monitor fleet operations and driver performance to ensure safe, efficient, and timely delivery of freight.
Balance customer requirements, project schedules, driver availability, and business objectives to maximize fleet utilization and operational effectiveness.
Coach, mentor, and develop drivers while fostering a positive work environment focused on accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with customers, project managers, operations personnel, and third-party service providers to ensure successful project execution.
Support driver retention efforts through regular communication, employee engagement, recognition, and proactive problem-solving.
Oversee driver scheduling, payroll accuracy, and resource planning while promoting a healthy work-life balance.
Coordinate the movement of oversize and specialized loads, including permit requirements, route planning, escort coordination, and customer-specific delivery requirements.
Monitor equipment utilization and availability to support operational needs and maximize fleet performance.
Ensure accurate and timely completion of transportation documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOLs), permits, inspection reports, and customer-required paperwork.
Respond effectively to service disruptions, project changes, and operational challenges while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
Partner with Safety, Maintenance, and Operations leadership to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Operations Manager or Director of Specialized Services.
Have at least three (3) years of experience in Flatbed, Heavy Haul, Specialized Transportation, Fleet Operations, or Transportation Leadership.
Demonstrate experience leading drivers, dispatch personnel, or transportation operations teams.
Possess a strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance requirements, Hours of Service regulations, and transportation safety standards.
Have experience with over-dimensional freight, permitting requirements, route planning, and escort coordination.
Understand the equipment utilized in Flatbed, Heavy Haul, and specialized transportation operations, including lowboys, RGNs, step decks, flatbeds, and specialized trailers.
Have experience supporting rail, construction, infrastructure, industrial, or project-based transportation operations (preferred).
Be skilled at building relationships with customers, drivers, and internal stakeholders.
Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Be adaptable and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Have experience with McLeod TMS software or similar transportation management systems (preferred).
Possess brokerage or specialized freight experience (preferred).
