Assistant Coach - Men's Baseball (Full-Time)

Position Summary

The Assistant Baseball Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the men's basketball program, with a primary focus on discipleship, player development, recruiting, and cultivating a Christ-centered team culture. This role contributes to the holistic development of student-athletes-spiritually, academically, athletically, and personally-while advancing the mission and values of the institution. This position also comes with secondary responsibilities supporting the Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities & Operations.


Essential Responsibilities

  1. Student-Athlete Development
  • Mentor and disciple student-athletes in alignment with Christ-centered principles
  • Support the spiritual formation of players through relationship-building and intentional engagement
  • Promote academic success, accountability, and personal growth
  • Assist in monitoring academic progress and retention

  1. Coaching & Player Development
  • Assist with practice planning and on-court instruction
  • Provide individual skill development and position-specific training
  • Contribute to game preparation, scouting reports, and film breakdown
  • Support in-game coaching, strategy, and adjustments

  1. Recruiting
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who align with institutional mission and program culture
  • Build relationships with high school and club coaches
  • Assist with campus visits, communication, and recruiting coordination
  • Maintain recruiting databases and compliance standards

  1. Program & Culture Development
  • Help cultivate a Christ-centered, team-first culture focused on excellence, accountability, and unity
  • Model and reinforce program standards and expectations
  • Support team-building initiatives and leadership development

  1. Operations & Administration
  • Assist with team travel coordination, scheduling, and logistics
  • Support equipment management and practice organization
  • Ensure compliance with Conference/NAIA/NCCAA and institutional policies
  • Participate in department meetings and initiatives

  1. Community & Campus Engagement
  • Engage in campus life and contribute to the broader university community
  • Support outreach, camps, and community engagement efforts
  • Represent the program in a professional and mission-aligned manner

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred).
  • Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience with evidence of leadership, discipleship, recruiting, player development, fundraising, and program organization.
  • Strong understanding of recruiting practices and basketball operations.
  • Clear personal commitment to Jesus Christ and agreement with Bethel University's doctrinal statement.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Position Expectations

  • Full-time, 12-month appointment.
  • Evening, weekend, and travel responsibilities required.
  • Active participation in the spiritual life and mission of Bethel University is an essential function of the position.
