About the role:
The role is critical to supporting the development of the data platform and in delivering the data strategy by providing architectural guidance and consulting oversight for the migration to Microsoft Fabric, designing modern data architecture patterns that enable advance analytics and data science capabilities, and establishing foundational practice for core data management and governance.
- Initial 6 month contract with strong potential to extend.
- Hybrid model: 3 days per week in the Sydney office.
- Must be an Australian citizen with current baseline clearance.
Key Skills required:
- Strong expertise in Azure data platform architecture (Data Lake Storage, ADF, Fabric, Data Factory, Databricks).
- Hands-on experience enabling/implementing Microsoft Fabric workloads (Lakehouse, Data Science, Data Engineering, Governance).
- Ability to provide architectural leadership and define target-state data platform architecture.
- Deep knowledge of Medallion/Lakehouse architecture and its application in enterprise scale platforms.
- Experience designing and optimising enterprise data lakes for scalability, governance, and analytics use cases.
- Strong data modelling skills across conceptual, logical, and physical layers along with leading modelling for data warehouses, semantic models, and enterprise data layers.
- Expertise with modelling tools and practices aligned to Azure and Fabric.
- Understanding of advanced analytics and data science pipelines, including ML integration patterns.
- Familiarity with Azure Machine Learning or Fabric Data Science capabilities and Ability to design platforms that support ML workloads, notebooks, feature, and scalable compute.
- Strong capability to run POCs, prototypes, and iterative solution validation.
- Strong knowledge of metadata management, master data, reference data, and data cataloguing.
- Experience embedding data quality frameworks, lineage tracking, auditing, and monitoring.
- Hands on experience with Microsoft Purview or Fabric governance tools.
- Deep understanding of Azure security, access control, and compliance practices.
- Ability to produce architecture blueprints, solution patterns, platform standards, and best practices.
- Skilled at aligning technical designs with organisational needs and enterprise architecture.
- Proven experience advising and guiding teams through design decisions, trade offs, risks, and solution options.
