As BillionToOne scales rapidly, we are building a world-class Commercial Data & Applied AI team. We are seeking a motivated AI Engineering Intern to support the design and implementation of AI and automation solutions that optimize operations across our commercial, billing, and customer experience teams.
This is an internship for those excited about applying LLMs, AI, ML, and automation to real-world business challenges in healthcare. You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers on a new team while making meaningful contributions to high-impact projects. You will work cross-functionally with stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, Revenue Operations, Billing, Customer Experience, and IT to support AI-driven solutions that improve scalability and efficiency.

This is a hybrid role requiring 2–3 days per week on-site in Menlo Park with the team.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Contribute to the development of LLM-powered applications (retrieval systems, AI agents, workflow automation, vector storage) that integrate with internal systems and data sources
- →Work with business stakeholders and senior engineers to identify automation opportunities and help define requirements
- →Assist in building lightweight data pipelines and analytics to support AI applications and measure their impact
- →Contribute to projects across the development lifecycle from prototyping and iteration through testing and deployment
Requirements

- Familiarity with Python and basic comfort with SQL
- Exposure to LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) through coursework, personal projects, or hackathons
- Strong communication skills and eagerness to learn how business problems translate into technical solutions
- Self-directed and comfortable asking questions in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
- Personal projects, hackathon experience, or coursework involving LLMs or ML
- Exposure to retrieval architectures, vector databases, or embedding models
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Experience with ML frameworks (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Interest in healthcare, biotech, or regulated industries
