Join a team of brilliant, passionate innovators determined to transform healthcare. At BillionToOne, we've built a category-defining, publicly traded company on Nasdaq where transparency fuels trust, collaboration drives breakthroughs, and every contribution moves the needle on our mission to make life-changing diagnostics accessible to all. We don't just aim for incremental improvements; we build products that are 10x better than anything that exists today.

Our scientists, engineers, sales executives, and visionaries are united by an unwavering commitment to changing the standard of care in prenatal and cancer diagnostics. This is where cutting-edge science meets human compassion, and every innovation you contribute helps remove the fear of the unknown from some of life's most critical medical moments.

If you're driven by purpose, energized by innovation, and ready to help shape the future of precision medicine at scale, this is where you belong.

BillionToOne is looking to hire a Legal Assistant to join its growing Legal & Compliance team. This is a hands-on, entry-level role designed for a recent graduate who is seriously considering a career in law and plans to attend law school — it offers direct exposure to how an in-house legal department actually operates at a fast-growing life sciences company, working alongside our General Counsel-Chief Compliance Officer, three additional attorneys and two other legal professionals on real contracts, litigation, compliance projects, and business matters. This role reports to the Associate General Counsel and can be located onsite or remote. Strong preference for two to three days per week on site, with occasional flexibility for fully remote work.

  • Assist with legal research on healthcare, corporate, and regulatory questions, and help prepare summaries and memos for the legal team and business colleagues
  • Support the company's equity program, including administering grant documentation, assisting with employee communications, and helping ensure compliance with equity-related requirements
  • Prepare and maintain the corporate books and records, including minutes supporting materials for meetings of the Board of Directors and its committees
  • Assist with claims and litigation, including discovery requests, document collection, review, production and management of litigation holds
  • Support the team with contract process, including intake, tracking, redlining, and organization across multiple types of agreements
  • Support the team's compliance and privacy program, including training logistics, policy distribution, communications, and monitoring of routine compliance tasks
  • Drive the legal department's adoption and use of AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT/OpenAI, and similar platforms), including workflow design, prompt development, and evaluating new tools
  • Assist with due diligence, corporate filings, and other administrative legal work as it arises
  • Take on special projects that provide exposure to different areas of law and business, with increasing responsibility over time

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Bachelor's degree with a strong academic record (recent graduates welcome)
  • Genuine interest in pursuing a legal career with plans to attend law school
  • Strong writing, editing, and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail; comfortable sharing information, ideas, and feedback transparently and considerately across teams
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple tasks and deadlines at once; able to break larger projects into manageable steps and own them from start to finish
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with sound judgment and discretion
  • Learning agility and comfort with ambiguity — quickly picks up new concepts and skills, adapts as the role and business evolve, and treats unfamiliar or unclear problems as opportunities to find a way forward
  • Strong team player with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch in wherever needed, and a bias for action — takes ownership of tasks and moves them forward without waiting to be asked
  • Creative problem-solver, willing to propose and test new approaches rather than default to how things have always been done
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or similar tools; technically savvy, with strong fluency in Claude, ChatGPT/OpenAI, and other AI tools

Familiarity with some or all of the following:

  • Coursework, internships, or extracurriculars related to pre-law, healthcare, or business
