Developer Relations Engineer
Quick Summary
About Black Forest Labs We’re the team behind Latent Diffusion, Stable Diffusion, and FLUX—foundational technologies that changed how the world creates images and video.
We’re the team behind Latent Diffusion, Stable Diffusion, and FLUX—foundational technologies that changed how the world creates images and video. We’re creating the generative models that power how people make images and video—tools used by millions of creators, developers, and businesses worldwide. Our FLUX models are among the most advanced in the world, and we’re just getting started.
Headquartered in Freiburg, Germany with a growing presence in San Francisco, we’re scaling fast while staying true to what makes us different: research excellence, open science, and building technology that expands human creativity.
FLUX models have been downloaded hundreds of millions of times - but most developers still discover them through community content, not from BFL. The best models in the world won't win alone if developers don't know how to use them, can't find good examples, and never meet anyone from the team. This role owns that entire surface: the content, the docs, the community, the events, the open-source projects that show what's possible. You'll be the reason developers go from "I've heard of FLUX" to "I'm building with it."
This is a high-impact role with significant visibility. You'll work directly with our DevRel, Growth and Marketing team as well as the research team to shape how developers discover, learn, and succeed with FLUX. You'll spend most of your time creating - videos, docs, tutorials, demos - and engaging directly with our community.
For the role in San Francisco - you'll build our local presence in the SF developer community while growing our reach online. The combination matters - we want someone who can run a hackathon on Tuesday and have the video tutorial live by Friday.
- Improve BFL’s video presence - tutorials, demos, educational content that becomes the go-to resource
- Create and maintain world-class developer documentation
- Write tutorials, cookbooks, and open-source demo repos
- Engage directly with the developer community in-person sometimes (conferences, meetups, hackathons)
- Take community feedback and turn it into actionable product insights
- 3+ years in developer relations, or technical role with public-facing component
- Proven track record of technical content creation (portfolio required)
- Up-to-date engineering skills, ideally demonstrated through open-source projects
- Working knowledge of AI/ML development (agents, RAG, orchestration, API integrations)
- Comfortable on camera and creating video content
- Industry Recognition - A significant "Digital Footprint," which could include a popular technical YouTube channel, a popular X account or a widely-read newsletter.
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Experience with Generative Media
- Finetuning / LoRA of FLUX / Diffusion models
We’re a distributed team with real offices that people actually use. Depending on your role, you’ll either join us in Freiburg or SF at least 2 days a week (or one full week every other week), or work remotely with a monthly in-person week to stay connected. We’ll cover reasonable travel costs to make this possible. We think in-person time matters, and we’ve structured things to make it accessible to all. We’ll discuss what this will look like for the role during our interview process.
- Obsessed: We build beautifully crafted, scientifically rigorous products by deeply understanding problems from first principles; and never shipping anything we’re not proud of.
- Low Ego: Prioritizing the best idea over personal ownership, where titles hold no authority, credit is shared, and no task is beneath anyone.
- Bold: We ship bold ideas early, improve fast, and take ambitious bets, without sacrificing quality for speed.
- Kind: We treat each other with genuine care, speaking directly and kindly even when conversations are hard.
If this sounds like work you’d enjoy, we’d love to hear from you.
Base Annual Salary: $175K-$290K + equity
