We're looking for an energetic and experienced Parks Director to lead the planning, development, and care of our city's parks and recreation system.
This is your opportunity to oversee everything from lush green spaces and athletic fields to trails, and City of Bloomfield facilities-helping create places where our community connects and thrives. In this role, you'll lead the planning, coordination, and management of park turf and beautification, as well as a wide range of facilities-including trails, buildings, shelters, ball fields, and natural areas-while ensuring all parks are safe, well-maintained, and meet City standards.
Responsibilities
~1 min readAs Parks Director, you will:
- →Lead the daily operations of the Parks & Recreation Department
- →Plan, prioritize, and oversee park maintenance, beautification, and capital projects
- →Manage and mentor a diverse team including full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff
- →Oversee facilities such as parks, trails, ball fields, playgrounds, and the maintenance of the aquatic center
- →Prepare and manage the department budget, grants, and purchasing processes
- →Coordinate construction and improvement projects (pavilions, courts, irrigation systems, etc.)
- →Ensure compliance with safety standards and city ordinances
- →Serve as a key liaison with City leadership, boards, and community organizations
- →Respond to citizen inquiries and help resolve park-related concerns
- →Oversee turf management, irrigation systems, pest control, and landscaping programs
We're looking for a hands-on/working leader who is passionate about parks, people, and public service:
- Associate's degree in Parks & Recreation, General Studies, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of progressively responsible experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or facilities management Strong leadership and supervisory experience Knowledge of turf management, irrigation systems, and landscaping practices
- Experience with budgeting, project management, and staff development Ability to operate and oversee a wide range of maintenance equipment Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Valid State Applicator's License
This role combines office leadership with outdoor fieldwork. Expect a dynamic day that includes:
- Active, hands-on tasks (walking, lifting, equipment use)
- Site visits and inspections
- Collaboration with staff, officials, and the public
