The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as a Principal in our Supervision (Banking, Trust, Corporate Services and Investment) Department. Reporting to an Assistant Director, the postholder will be responsible for directing a team of professionals responsible for the supervision and regulation of licensed institutions under the Banks and Deposit Companies Act 1999, the Investment Business Act 2003, the Fund Administration Provider Business Act 2019, the Trusts (Regulation of Trust Business) Act 2001, the Money Services Business Act 2016, the Corporate Service Provider Business Act 2012 and the Credit Union Act 2010.

• Leading a multi-disciplinary team of professionals in the on-site and off-site activities for licensed institutions and groups
• Undertaking a risk-based analysis of licensed institutions and groups to determine the annual supervisory plans and applicable minimum regulatory requirements
• Monitoring the progress of remediation efforts by licensed institutions to close issues identified through supervisory activities
• Contributing as required to the development of regulatory policy for the financial services industry
• Applying appropriate risk-based models in allocating supervisory resources
• Ensuring that the team meets agreed supervisory objectives concerning regulated entities
• Giving high priority to the management, assessment, development and training of staff
• Liaising with industry bodies as well as with overseas supervisory and regulatory bodies
• Representing the Authority on various committees and through attendance at seminars and conferences
• Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by management in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post

Requirements

• A master’s degree in business, finance, law or a related discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution or professional body; or a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, law or related discipline and a relevant professional designation such as CA, CPA, CFA, FRM, ACIS, FCI or TEP from a recognised institution or professional body
• A minimum of seven (7) years of postgraduate experience, of which at least three (3) years should be at a senior level working within a financial services regulator or the banking, investment and trust sectors
• A sound understanding of financial analysis techniques as well as risk management and corporate governance issues
• The ability to interpret and apply legal statutes and other similar material
• Strong leadership, mentoring and supervisory skills
• Confidence in conducting and speaking at meetings with senior management
• Exceptional analytical, written, oral and communication skills, strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Working knowledge of relevant international regulatory standards
• Working knowledge of computerised systems and databases, particularly Microsoft Office
• General knowledge of trending changes in the financial services industry, such as FinTech, SupTech and other digitised applications
