Project Success Internship/Federal Work Study Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a degree-seeking student at Bay Mills Community College.
  • Must have Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined in BMCC’s Student Handbook:
    • Grade Point Average of 2.0 (cumulative)
    • Successful completion of 67% of credits attempted at BMCC on a cumulative basis.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits for the semester the paid internship/FWS will be awarded.
  • Must have attendance of 70% or higher in all classes.
  • Eligibility requirements must be met at the beginning of each semester.

Internship Summary:

This position is Part Time up to 20 hours per week with an hourly wage of $14.00. This student employment opportunity offers experience of daily operations in the field of fitness. The student will work with clients to familiarize them with the area, equipment, and policies and procedures. This Student Employee will meet academic and professional qualifications, will be dedicated to academic excellence and student-centered education, and will support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Community College.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist guests with membership services and enrollment.
  • Perform basic office duties such as answering and directing telephone calls, assisting guests, correspondence, and maintaining both electronic and physical files.
  • Learn and uphold the policies and procedures of the Mukwa Health & Fitness Center.
  • Assist with program planning and implementation including assistance with set-up and clean-up of activities.
  • Complete light equipment management and cleaning duties
  • Attend any mandatory trainings designated by the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required to provide the highest level of guest service.
  • Strong computer application skills to include Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn basic office equipment.
  • Respect for the confidentiality of all information received.
  • Demonstrated personal integrity, sound judgment, and dependability.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while representing BMCC.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, college and departmental committee experience preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  • Knowledge or experience in working with Native Americans, in an educational setting preferred.

 

Education and Experience:

  • The internship is OPEN TO ALL eligible students, however, would benefit those from BMCC programs such as Office Administration, Computer Applications, General Studies, and Business Administration.
  • This internship would be helpful in a variety of careers such as project management, educational leadership, and office assistant.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others, college and departmental committee experience preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  • Knowledge or experience in working with Native Americans, in an educational setting preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires the student to have full motor movements.
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds, and work with others to lift and/or move equipment in excess of 200 pounds or more to ensure the highest level of safety for the employee and the fitness center guests.
