The Database Platform team’s mission is to provide a scalable, consistent, and easy-to-use relational database platform to support our clients’ relational data access use cases. Developers at Box routinely face challenges of serving millions of requests per second, while providing enterprise-grade uptime, consistency and performance guarantees. Our goal is to let them focus on business logic, while we make sure the data layer lives up to their requirements.
As a SWE III on the Database Platform team, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of data at Box. We are in an exciting era of growth and that means serving more customer traffic and data than ever before. Working closely with the database infrastructure team and data access service team, you will implement novel solutions to scale our database including adopting and evolving our systems around cloud-managed database solutions. Box’s accelerated growth in the AI era also means we support an ever-increasing velocity of development within Box. You will also develop intuitive interfaces and provide automated services for schema management to enable developers to focus on shipping changes with streamlined change processes, while also freeing up the team to focus on innovation and strategic solutions.

Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Contribute to the novel adoption of cloud-managed database solutions and continue to evolve our systems for the new platform
- →Collaborate team members to design novel approaches to addressing scale challenges associated with exponentially increased usage of our data tier
- →Simplify the management of database changes to facilitate rapid feature development for our team and developers across Box
- →Partner with teams across engineering to design scalable database schemas suitable for a variety of business needs in Box's constantly growing and evolving platform
- →Manage critical production systems with enterprise-grade excellence around performance, availability, and consistency
- →Participate in our on-call rotation, available at all times while on-call to help respond to and triage any issues that arise

Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field
- 3+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures, and code design principles
- Strong grasp of high-scale distributed systems
Preferred Skills
- Experience with JVM-based languages such as Java and Scala
- Familiarity with relational database solutions such as MySQL
- Passionate about scale and performance challenges
- Strong sense of ownership, persistence and drive, strong communication
