Teacher's Success Story Role Purpose * To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English. * To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission Accountabilities * Plan and deliver high-quality English language lessons that meets the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles – up to the number of contracted teaching hours * Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy and sense of progress * Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team * Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards * Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best English Language Teaching (ELT) practices * Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK * Assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service and upholding British Council Values and Behaviours * Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas: * Child protection * Equal Opportunity and Diversity * Health and safety Qualifications Essentials * Cambridge CELTA AND OR Trinity Certificate TESOL * Undergraduate OR University degree in any discipline Desirables * Cambridge DELTA OR Trinity Diploma or equivalent * Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Bachelor of Education OR B.Ed. in Primary OR Secondary OR equivalent * Certificate in English Language Teaching to Young Learners extension OR Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate Work Experience * 2-years post-certificate (i.e., CELTA OR Trinity Certificate TESOL) experience * Experience in teaching relevant age groups: * Young learners < 4(400+ hours) * Young learners aged 4 to 7 (400+ hours) * Young learners aged 8 to 12 (400+ hours) * Young learners aged 13 to 17 (400+ hours) * Adults aged 18+(400+ hours) Salary details * Salary: You will be paid at an hourly rate that corresponds to your teaching qualification and experience post qualification as stated below. For non-teaching tasks, you will be paid at an administrative rate for the briefing session & training would be HK$ 247 * HK$440 (TELF-I) * HK$490 (TELF-Q) * Contract: One-year fixed-term contract * Work schedule: The hourly paid contract doesn’t have guaranteed working hours. The work available will likely be on Saturdays and the minimum requirement is commitment to a semester worth of Saturdays. Potentially there is Sunday work but it not expected unless we call for cover. If no classes are given we can put people on a sub contract to call if needed. Weekday hours are very infrequent but occasionally possible with priority given to those who give us weekend hours. Additional Information * Passport requirements/ Right to work in the country: Please note that hourly paid teacher applicants need to hold valid Hong Kong work visas / dependent visas / Hong Kong permanent residency in addition to meeting the requirements below.
