Brookline DPW’s Water & Sewer Division seeks a Water Use Analyst to monitor, analyze, and manage the Town’s public and private water consumption systems, including metering infrastructure, usage reporting platforms, municipal irrigation systems, and related water-use assets. This supervisory, data-driven role ensures accurate consumption tracking, timely identification of leaks, efficient operation of municipal water systems, and consistent application of water-conservation standards. Focusing on efficient and sustainable public water use, this position oversees key technologies that support the Town’s water-management objectives, coordinates staff and contractors, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as Town policies.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Monitor daily water consumption for discrepancies, leaks, and abnormal usage; investigate issues and communicate findings to customers.
- →Track usage trends and research tools, standards, and best practices for water conservation.
- →Collaborate with meter shop, leak detection, billing staff, and other departments to support accurate monthly billing.
- →Analyze usage data and recommend improvements to minimize waste and optimize system performance.
- →Manage municipal water systems, including irrigation, water features, comfort stations, and related monitoring/control platforms.
- →Oversee installation, maintenance, repair, and seasonal operations of Town-managed water systems; serve as liaison for water-use system issues.
- →Maintain comprehensive records and manage work orders for DPW water systems.
- →Develop and update SOPs; assign and support service crews, ensuring safety and quality standards.
- →Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies and support budget development.
- →Assist with inspections, project management, meter replacements, service line installations, and troubleshooting of metering and billing technologies.
- →Provide field and office support during emergencies, leak responses, shutdowns, and storm readiness activities; serve as essential staff during weather-related events.
- →Develop educational materials, update website content, and engage the public through outreach on water quality, conservation, and sustainability.
- →Maintain required training, licensure, and certifications; attend Town/Division training as assigned.
- →Performs other related work as required.
Requirements
~1 min read- Valid Class D Driver’s License
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Safety Certification (required within one month of employment)
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience managing water consumption and billing systems, and the ability to identify anomalies, trends, and opportunities for efficiency. They will demonstrate effective communication skills, collaborate well with internal and external stakeholders, oversee technical field operations, maintain accurate records, and navigate both office and field environments. They will also be adept at coordinating emergency response activities and representing the Division in public outreach efforts.
Pay and Benefits
Starting salary range is $79,894 – $84,237 depending on experience. Brookline offers comprehensive benefits, including health and dental insurance, retirement pension plan participation, generous paid vacation and sick leave, and professional development opportunities.
