Police Department – Traffic Division
Salary: $27.90 hourly
The Town of Brookline is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to serve as a School Traffic Supervisor / Parking Control Officer. This position plays a vital role in protecting school children and supporting public safety by ensuring the safe and orderly flow of traffic and enforcing parking regulations. This is a uniformed position under the direction of the Police Department’s Traffic Division.
Responsibilities:
- Direct traffic at assigned school crossings to protect children and ensure safe passage.
- Monitor and guide students to use designated crossings; remain at post until all children are safely cared for.
- Enforce parking rules and regulations in accordance with state law and Town by-laws, including overtime meters, restricted areas, handicapped spaces, and public safety violations.
- Issue parking violation notices and explain violations when requested.
- Report traffic violations, accidents, hazards, and emergencies to the Police Department for follow-up.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of violations and enforcement activity.
- Wear and maintain required uniforms and safety equipment; report for duty on time and notify supervisors in case of absence.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and traverse an assigned area of Town.
- Ability to deal courteously, firmly, and effectively with children, pedestrians, and the driving public.
- Strong observational and communication skills, with the ability to prepare written reports and keep accurate records.
- Reliability, professionalism, and sound judgment when working independently.
