Burrow Global is seeking an experienced Field Combustion & Turbine Inspector to perform visual, dimensional, and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE/NDT) inspections on industrial Gas and Steam Turbine systems. In this role, you will lead or support field inspections during planned maintenance outages, Hot Gas Path Inspections (HGPI), combustion inspections, and major overhauls.

The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in heavy-frame industrial turbines, rotating equipment mechanics, and combustion hardware, alongside the flexibility to travel across industrial power and energy facilities in Texas and Michigan.

Responsibilities

~1 min read
  • Perform thorough physical, visual (VT), and borescope inspections on gas turbine combustion components (fuel nozzles, liners, transition pieces, flow sleeves) and steam turbine path hardware.
  • Execute high-precision mechanical measurements, including rotor runout, tip clearance, diaphragm alignments, bearing clearances, and casing measurements.
  • Perform Non-Destructive Testing/Examination (NDT/NDE) techniques—such as Dye Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) to detect surface/subsurface flaws, thermal fatigue, or erosion.
  • Evaluate component wear, thermal barrier coating (TBC) degradation, corrosion, and erosion against OEM specifications and industry standards.
  • Support major and minor outage projects, plant turnarounds, and emergency shutdowns for power plants, refineries, and manufacturing sites.
  • Supervise disassembly of turbine systems, component evaluations, and reassemblies to ensure work complies with OEM tolerances and quality control guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Field Service Engineers, Outage Managers, and Plant Maintenance Supervisors to document findings, recommend repairs, or advise on component replacements.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports, photographic documentation, clear measurement logs, and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) in a timely manner.
  • Document asset condition trends and provide root-cause failure analysis (RCA) support for damaged hardware.
  • Maintain strict adherence to site-specific safety protocols, OSHA standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, and Hot Work Permitting.
  • Participate in daily pre-task safety briefs (Toolbox Talks) and advocate for a safety-first culture on-site.

  • Technical Certifications:
    • ASNT Level II or III in Visual Testing (VT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), or Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) preferred.
    • OSHA 10/30-Hour Safety Certification is a plus.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
    • Willingness to travel extensively (75%+), primarily between sites in Texas and Michigan, with occasional work outside the core region depending on client needs.
    • Willingness to work extended shifts, weekends, and holidays during peak outage seasons (Spring/Fall).
  • Must be comfortable working in industrial environments, high-temperature zones, confined spaces, and at elevated heights.
