Position Summary
CAIRO is seeking Summer School Tutors/Teachers through our SPACE (Students, Parents, and Communities Engaged) Program to support elementary, middle school, and high school students during our summer learning program.
Tutors and teachers will provide academic instruction and enrichment in Reading, Language Arts, Math, and Science while helping students build confidence, improve academic skills, and prepare for the upcoming school year.
This is a temporary, part-time summer position.

July 6, 2026 – August 21, 2026
Schedule
Monday–Thursday
9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Approximately 20 hours per week
Location
Tech High School
St. Cloud, Minnesota
Compensation
$35/hour – Licensed Teachers
$21–$25/hour – Non-Licensed Tutors/Teachers (based on qualifications and experience)
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide in-person academic support in one-on-one and small group settings.
- Tutor students in core subjects, with a focus on Language Arts, Math, and Science.
- Implement culturally responsive teaching strategies that support diverse learners.
- Assist students who are English language learners and/or have experienced interrupted or disrupted education.
- Foster positive relationships that encourage student engagement and motivation.
- Help students develop study skills, organization, and academic confidence.
- Maintain attendance records and session documentation.
- Communicate regularly with program supervisors regarding student progress.
- Supervise students and model positive, respectful behavior.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to support students in high school-level academic subjects.
- Some coursework or experience in STEM-related subjects.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
Preferred
- Associate or bachelor’s degree.
- Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or youth development experience.
- Experience working with immigrant and refugee communities.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and educational technology.
- Bilingual skills in Somali, Swahili, Arabic, or other African languages.
Work Environment
- Combination of sitting, standing, and active engagement with students.
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
- May involve floor seating and participation in youth activities.
- Reliable transportation is preferred.
