Under the general direction of the Environmental Public Health Operations Coordinator, performs a variety of duties within a team environment and provides support and assistance to the manager and clients.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the primary backup for the Environmental Public Health front desk and provide administrative program support, including assisting walk-in clients, answering phones, routing inquiries, scheduling, record management, document processing, and maintaining knowledge of Environmental Health programs to assist residents, businesses, and staff.
  2. Assist with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, including compiling records and coordinating responses according to department procedures.
  3. Participate as a member of the department software team, assisting with implementation, testing, and improvement of internal systems.
  4. Serve as the lead support for GIS-related tasks, including maintaining mapping data and assisting with geographic data tracking for environmental programs.
  5. Assist with vector surveillance activities, including identification, placement and collection of mosquito traps, participation in tick surveillance, and regular reporting to MDHHS/other agencies.
  6. Conduct inspections of public pools, campgrounds, and assist standardized sanitarians with temporary food inspections.
  7. Conduct harmful algal bloom monitoring and sampling.
  8. Conduct long-term monitoring sampling activities.
  9. Assist with digitizing and organizing Environmental Health records, including scanning, indexing, and maintaining electronic files to support efficient record management and accessibility.
  10. Assist with public education and outreach activities.
  11. Serve as a proctor for the Certified Food Manager class.
  12. Assist in foodborne disease outbreak and other environmental investigations.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge normally acquired through the completion of an associate’s degree.
  • One to three years of experience in public health preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and data entry skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task simultaneous projects requiring concentration and attention to detail with frequent distractions due to people or telephone calls.
  • A valid Michigan driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and a personal vehicle including proof of vehicle insurance are required.

  • Work will consist of both office environment and outdoor environment.
  • Travel may be required.
  • May have contact with infectious disease and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Available to respond to emergencies (e.g., program-related and public health emergencies), when necessary.
  • Extended workdays (beyond 8 hours/day) and weekends or holidays may be required.
Wage Range
$23.93$29.37 USD
