Public Health Nurse - School Nurse (Special Education)

Under the general direction of the Child & Adolescent Health Supervisor, provides nursing services to identified students and families. Serves as subject matter expert in the School Wellness Program at the Calhoun County Public Health Department.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Supports daily needs of identified student(s) provided by the Battle Creek Public School administration team.
- →Travel between schools to provide nursing services to the identified students through the school day, as needed.
- →Work with school personnel to improve the understanding of chronic health issues.
- →Administer medication as necessary.
- →Communicate with parents and other health care providers as appropriate.
- →Provide input for new or revised policies and procedures.
- →Provide information, answer questions, and provide referrals as necessary.

Requirements
~1 min read- Must be a Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Michigan. BSN preferred.
- Experience with Tracheostomy and Gastrostomy tubes.
- Oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Time management skills.
- Mental ability to frequently handle simultaneous projects requiring concentration and attention to detail with frequent distractions due to people and/or telephone calls.
- Frequently required to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time, perform repetitive movement, and/or work in confined areas.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies
Hybrid Work Classification: Hybrid Eligible
Flexibility Classification: Fixed Schedule
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Largely sedentary role with extensive computer work.
- Travel required between schools.
- May have contact with infectious disease exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- On-call availability to respond to emergencies (e.g., program-related and public health emergencies).
- Extended workdays (beyond 8 hours/day) and weekends or holidays may be required.
