General Labourer (Summer Term)

About the Role

The Maintenance team is responsible for the consistent upkeep of a variety of local residential and commercial buildings.  The activities range from full apartment renovations to small repairs and clean up. The General Labourer position is key to ensure work sites remain clean and organized, removing hazards and following directions from supervisors and other skilled tradesmen. This is a summer term position.

Primary Responsibilities

You will be accountable for various maintenance & repair activities such as:

• Execute daily work instructions received from the Maintenance Manager in a timely manner.
• Loading and unloading construction materials and moving to work areas.
• Prepare work sites by removing obstacles and hazards.
• Lifting and carrying material, as needed.
• Support carpenters and other skilled labour when necessary.
• Removing debris at work sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment.
• Perform site clean-up.
• Prepping interior and exterior walls for painting
• Cutting and rolling paint, as required.
• Other duties, as required.

About You

To do well in this role you should be physically fit, reliable and be a hard worker.

Your skills include:

• Good physical condition including the ability to carry 50 lbs. of material.
• General knowledge of construction material and their use.
• General knowledge of practices and methods applicable to general construction.

Your qualities include:

• Team player with strong interpersonal skills who works effectively with other team members.
• Strong work ethic who demonstrates accountability and is motivated to get the job done right.
• A willingness to perform a variety of jobs.
• Professional and positive image through personal awareness.
• Ability to problem-solve and exercise good judgment.
• Although minimal requirement, a willingness to work overtime when necessary to deliver the project on time.

In addition, you possess:

• A valid BC Driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
• Basic hand tools, personal PPE, and reliable transportation to job sites is required.

A clean criminal record check will be required.  References will be requested if interviewed.
