The Technical Marketing Lead is an entrepreneurial, high-growth role designed for a technically minded communicator who can translate complex engineering and scientific concepts into compelling customer-facing content. This role represents the voice of the company through brand identity and storytelling. This individual will own the development and maintenance of Canopy Aerospace & Defense's external communication platforms, helping strengthen the company's brand, market presence, and customer engagement across digital and physical channels. This will require a deep understanding of company operations, product segments, the customer’s voice, and all industries we have exposure to. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive expertise across the defense industrial base, demonstrating a deep understanding of supply chains ranging from maritime naval assets and munition systems to space launch technologies. This role will be a cross-functional role and require coordination across C-suite, Presidents, Product Managers, Engineers, and Business Development (Growth Team).
- Develop, edit, and publish technical and analytical content, including white papers, capability statements, data sheets, case studies, customer success stories, website content, social media content, and executive communications.
- Create customer-facing marketing materials, presentations, capability briefs, trade show collateral, and branded content that effectively communicate complex technical concepts.
- Design visual content using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, AI-assisted tools, and other graphic design platforms to support business development, proposals, recruiting, and corporate communications.
- Maintain and continuously improve company websites, digital content, messaging, and brand consistency across all channels.
- Conduct market, customer, industry, and competitor research to support strategic marketing initiatives and growth planning.
- Coordinate company participation in conferences, trade shows, customer demonstrations, and industry events, including logistics, materials, and follow-up communications.
- Support internal communications initiatives, employee spotlights, company announcements, recruiting campaigns, and branded merchandise programs.
- Build, organize, and maintain a centralized library of marketing, branding, technical communication, and business development materials.
- Monitor marketing performance metrics, website analytics, and content engagement to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, business development, and leadership teams to translate technical capabilities into compelling customer-focused messaging.
- Support proposal, capture, and strategic growth efforts through content development, graphics, and market intelligence.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of professional experience or equivalent internship experience in marketing, communications, technical writing, content development, or related disciplines.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Strong technical writing, analytical writing, and content creation capabilities, with a portfolio of work samples.
- Proficiency with graphic design and content creation tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite, and AI-assisted content platforms.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and project management abilities.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of executing in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, engineering, or advanced materials industries.
- Familiarity with website management platforms such as WordPress, Webflow, or similar CMS tools. We use Webflow.
- Experience managing digital content, corporate websites, and social media platforms such as Linkedin.
- Experience supporting trade shows, conferences, customer events, or marketing campaigns.
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial initiative, leadership experience, personal projects, or creative pursuits.
- Basic understanding of technical products, manufacturing processes, or government contracting environments.
Within the first 12 months, success for the Technical Marketing Lead will be defined by measurable business impact, exceptional content execution, and the ability to translate complex technical capabilities into compelling customer-facing communications. Specifically, a successful team member will have:
- Established a Consistent and Professional Brand Presence: Developed and maintained high-quality marketing materials, website content, presentations, and visual assets that clearly communicate the company’s capabilities and reinforce a consistent brand identity across all channels.
- Created High-Impact Technical Content: Produced compelling white papers, capability statements, data sheets, case studies, social media content, and thought leadership materials that effectively support business development, customer engagement, recruiting, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Improved Digital Presence and Engagement: Enhanced website content, messaging, and user experience while increasing engagement across digital channels through timely, relevant, and technically accurate content.
- Enabled Business Development Success: Provided marketing collateral, research, presentations, graphics, and communications support that contributed to customer engagement, proposal efforts, trade show participation, and pipeline growth.
- Built a Scalable Marketing Infrastructure: Organized and maintained a centralized library of marketing, branding, and technical communication assets, enabling efficient access to current materials across the organization.
- Delivered Valuable Market Intelligence: Conducted meaningful market, industry, customer, and competitor research that informed leadership decision-making, positioning strategies, and growth opportunities.
- Demonstrated Creativity, Initiative, and Ownership: Consistently identified opportunities to improve communications, enhance brand visibility, and support company objectives while executing with minimal oversight in a fast-paced environment.
- Modeled a Culture of Excellence: Demonstrated professionalism, attention to detail, collaboration, adaptability, and a commitment to quality that reflects the company’s values and mission.
FLSA Classification: Salary Exempt

Salary Range: $85-120K
Reports to: Chief Strategy Officer, Canopy A&D
Base Location: Irvine, CA; Ontario, CA; Riverside, CA
Travel: 10%, occasional onsite work at portfolio companies in Ontario, Riverside, Denver, Cape Canaveral, United Kingdom, and Europe
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Total compensation will also include a comprehensive set of benefits including but not limited to: Company paid employee medical, dental and vision insurance. Retirement plan participation (eligibility required), paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid holidays and discretionary bonuses.
