A landscape designer plans and creates functional, aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces like residential gardens and small commercial areas. They blend artistic vision with horticulture and construction knowledge to select plants, design hardscapes (patios/walkways), manage drainage, and create 3D, digital, or hand-sketched plans for site installation.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- → Site Analysis & Planning: Evaluating soil, climate, sun exposure, and site topography to create sustainable, functional designs.
- → Design Creation: Producing detailed layout plans, 3D renderings, and sketches for features like pathways, lighting, and water features.
- → Plant Selection (Softscaping): Choosing appropriate plants, trees, and shrubs that fit the aesthetic, local climate, and maintenance preferences.
- → Hardscape Planning: Designing non-living elements like patios, decks, walls, and walkways.
- → Client Consultation: Meeting with clients to understand their vision, budget, and functional needs for their property.
- → Project Management: Working with contractors, overseeing installations, and ensuring the project is completed to design specifications.
