The Managing Director, Investor Relations serves as a senior enterprise leader and key deputy to the Head of Investor Relations, responsible for advancing Schwab’s investor relations strategy and strengthening the firm’s credibility with the investment community. This leader partners closely with senior executives and cross-functional partners to shape clear, consistent, and compelling external narratives regarding Schwab’s performance, strategy, capital position, and market differentiation.

 

The role requires exceptional financial acumen, executive presence, sound judgment, and the ability to translate complex business, financial, regulatory, and market dynamics into credible messaging for investors, analysts, senior leadership, and the Board.

 

This role can be temporarily based at our offices in New York City and will require relocation to our corporate headquarters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area within a reasonable time frame.    

 

  • Lead execution of Schwab’s investor relations strategy, ensuring external communications are clear, credible, and aligned to enterprise priorities.
  • Advise the Head of Investor Relations, CFO, CEO, Executive Council, and senior Finance leaders on investor sentiment, valuation, shareholder engagement, disclosure strategy, and market positioning.
  • Shape messaging for earnings, business updates, capital management initiatives, strategic transactions, market developments, and other material communications.
  • Represent Schwab with institutional investors, buy-side and sell-side analysts, rating agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Partner across Finance, Treasury, Corporate Strategy, Corporate Communications, Legal, Risk, and business leadership teams to ensure message discipline and readiness for external engagement.
  • Lead market intelligence, ownership analysis, valuation benchmarking, peer tracking, and investor sentiment reporting to inform executive and Board-level discussions.
  • Oversee earnings call materials, investor presentations, disclosure support, business updates, and strategic communication deliverables.Build and develop a high-performing Investor Relations team with strong analytical capability, execution discipline, and leadership depth.
  • Deep understanding of investor relations, public-company communications, corporate finance, capital markets, financial services, securities disclosure, and the expectations of institutional investors and sell-side analysts.
  • Exceptional executive communication skills, including the ability to distill complex financial, strategic, regulatory, and market topics into clear, compelling messages for senior leaders, investors, analysts, and the Board.
  • Strong analytical capability with demonstrated experience developing unstructured analyses, pressure-testing assumptions, interpreting financial performance, assessing valuation drivers, and translating market feedback into actionable insight.
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills with the judgment, poise, and credibility to advise C-suite executives, influence cross-functional leaders, and engage sophisticated external audiences.
  • Strong command of financial modeling, reporting tools, databases, investor targeting, ownership analysis, peer benchmarking, and market intelligence practices that support earnings preparation and investor engagement.
  • Proven people leadership capability, including the ability to develop talent, set clear expectations, strengthen team operating discipline, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in investor relations, corporate finance, equity research, capital markets, financial communications, or related senior finance roles within a complex publicly traded company.
  • Senior-level experience in financial services strongly preferred, with exposure to brokerage, banking, wealth management, asset management, or other regulated financial institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing earnings materials, investor presentations, business updates, external messaging, management Q&A, disclosure support, and Board- or executive-level briefing materials.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with institutional investors, buy-side analysts, sell-side analysts, and other members of the investment community.
  • Experience advising senior executives on investor sentiment, valuation trends, competitive positioning, shareholder composition, capital markets developments, and external perception risk.
  • Track record of leading teams or complex cross-functional workstreams in a high-expectation, fast-moving environment with significant visibility to executive leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or a related field required; MBA, CFA, CPA, or related advanced credential preferred.
