The Lead Excavation Technician is responsible for operating heavy equipment, overseeing on‑site activities, and ensuring safe, accurate installation of utilities and structural supports. This role combines hands‑on excavation work with leadership responsibilities, including identifying underground utilities, coordinating crews, and maintaining compliance with safety and project specifications.

Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Excavator Operation — Operate excavators to dig trenches, foundations, and utility lines with precision.
- →Water & Drain Line Identification — Locate, identify, and verify water mains, sewer lines, and drainage systems before and during excavation.
- →Leadership Duties — Act as on‑site foreman; coordinate laborers, communicate with supervisors, and ensure tasks are completed to plan.
- →Shoring Setup — Install, inspect, and maintain trench shoring systems to protect workers and maintain OSHA compliance.
- →Site Preparation — Clear, grade, and prepare job sites; remove debris and support layout activities.
- →Material Handling — Load trucks, move materials, and support multi‑equipment operations.
- →Equipment Inspection — Perform daily inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.
- →Safety Compliance — Enforce safety protocols, PPE requirements, and trench safety regulations.
- →Team Coordination — Direct ground crews, signal operators, and maintain clear communication across the job site.
- Heavy Equipment Experience — 3–5 years operating excavators and working around underground utilities.
- Utility Knowledge — Ability to read utility plans, identify water and sewer lines, and work safely around live services.
- Licensing — Valid driver’s license; OSHA 10/30 preferred; trench safety certification a plus.
- Leadership Skills — Experience directing crews, coordinating tasks, and maintaining workflow.
- Technical Skills — Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, and site plans.
- Physical Capability — Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors, and handle physically demanding tasks.
- Driver’s License – Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
