• UT Health Tyler is the flagship hospital of the system, serving hundreds of thousands annually. Specializing in advanced acute care medicine, our Midtown location boasts a Level 1 trauma center and comprehensive stroke center, the region’s only EMCO program, and a Level III NICU. Our medical staff includes more than 500 physicians and a full complement of subspecialty groups.

The Graduate Nurse (GN) is a professional caregiver transitioning from nursing education into professional nursing practice. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse and in accordance with state regulations, organizational policies, and unit-based standards, the Graduate Nurse provides compassionate, patient-centered care to an assigned patient population while developing the knowledge, clinical judgment, and technical skills required of a professional Registered Nurse.The Graduate Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care activities appropriate to their level of preparation and licensure status. Through participation in a structured orientation program, the Graduate Nurse progressively assumes accountability for a designated group of patients while demonstrating commitment to patient safety, quality outcomes, professional growth, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

 

Responsibilities: 

• →Provides safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to an assigned patient population under the supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse until licensed as professional nurse.
• →Performs patient assessments and contributes to the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans.
• →Accurately documents patient care, assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
• →Administers treatments, procedures, and medications as permitted by licensure status, organizational policy, and regulatory requirements.
• →Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• →Recognizes changes in patient condition and promptly reports concerns to the supervising Registered Nurse, provider, or appropriate team member.
• →Prioritizes patient care activities while managing time and resources effectively.
• →Participates in bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient care conferences.
• →Demonstrates accountability for maintaining a safe environment and adhering to infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
• →Seeks feedback, engages in reflective practice, and demonstrates continuous professional growth toward independent nursing practice.
• →Supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization while promoting exceptional patient experiences and positive team collaboration.

Professional Development ExpectationsThe Graduate Nurse is expected to actively participate as they transition-to-practice through orientation designed to foster clinical competence, critical thinking, professional accountability, and leadership development. The Graduate Nurse will successfully obtain and maintain Registered Nurse licensure within the timeframe established by state regulations and organizational policy.

Job Requirements:

• GN permit required at start
• Must maintain current Texas RN License
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
