The role combines participant-facing data collection, human-use and IRB coordination, equipment and sample logistics, data analysis, scientific presentation, and development of practical standard operating procedures. Success requires strong judgment, respect for military schedules and customs, and the flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays when research must align with training events.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate laboratory and in-field human research investigations, including participant flow, daily schedules, staff assignments, supplies, equipment, biological samples, travel, and end-of-day reconciliation.
  • Collect protocol-authorized physiological and performance measures such as oxygen consumption, metabolism, skin blood flow, heart rate, core and skin temperature, force-platform data, activity and sleep, blood pressure, and related variables.
  • Support psychological-health, mental-readiness, musculoskeletal-injury, physical-health, and exercise-performance assessments as authorized by each protocol.
  • Prepare and coordinate scientific and human-use documents with the IRB, Office of Research Quality Compliance, and other applicable review committees.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for field and laboratory collection methods, equipment use, sample handling, and data-quality checks.
  • Manage supply inventory and ordering support; coordinate packaging, transportation, receipt, and storage of equipment and biological samples in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Organize, clean, analyze, and interpret study data and prepare journal-appropriate tables, figures, reports, manuscripts, posters, and presentations.
  • Prepare and present findings at national or international scientific conferences, subject to Government review and approval.
  • Coordinate with principal investigators, installation and training leadership, research partners, logistics personnel, and the Culmen Program Manager to keep studies aligned with mission schedules.
  • Support research outside normal business hours and travel within CONUS when required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in applied human-performance research, data analysis, and program development with military or tactical populations.
  • Experience coordinating human-subjects field or laboratory studies and scientific/human-use documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with physiological, exercise, sleep/activity, thermoregulatory, or related human-performance measurements.
  • Experience organizing data and preparing scientific tables, figures, reports, or presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate research teams, supplies, equipment, and biological-sample logistics.
  • Familiarity with military customs and the operational constraints of research conducted during training.
  • Ability to work primarily on-site at Fort Leonard Wood and support nights, weekends, holidays, travel, and field conditions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required favorable background investigation, CAC, installation access, and Government system access.
  • Experience with force platforms, indirect calorimetry, oxygen-consumption testing, skin blood flow, core-temperature monitoring, or biological-sample processing.
  • Knowledge of psychological health, mental readiness, musculoskeletal injury, military training, or tactical performance.
