Responsibilities

  • Provides pastoral care as the On Call Chaplain by responding to emergencies after hours (4:00 P.M. to 8:00 A.M.), and on weekends and holidays on a rotating basis with other chaplains.
  • Provides or facilitates in the meeting of ritual and sacramental needs of patients of all faiths.
  • Keeps records of pastoral activity to communicate with other members of the department and health care team.
  • Attends meetings as scheduled and notifies the Director if absentees are necessary.
  • Leads group activities, worship services, religious rites, and classes as scheduled.
  • Provides pastoral care to hospital staff.
  • Follows Department of Pastoral Care Service policies and procedures.

    • Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
    • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook
    • Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
    • Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
    • Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
    • Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.

     

    Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • A bachelor level college degree, master’s level theological degree preferred
  • One (1) unit of accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (four (4) units preferred) in chaplaincy or equivalent
  • Ordination or commissioning for ministry by a recognized religious group
  • Three years’ experience as a clergy person in the local church or other parish setting
  • The ability to operate telephone, paging and computer systems.
  • Light work requires walking and standing to a significant degree.  Must be able to lift a maximum of 15 pounds.  Must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.  Must be able to perceive spoken communications of others by hearing or lip reading.
