Dewberry is currently seeking a motivated Senior Environmental Scientist to join our Charlotte, Raleigh, NC or Danville, VA offices. This full-time opening will provide the applicant with the opportunity to work as part of a team throughout the Southeast region in all facets of environmental services including wetland science, regulatory permitting, and groundwater compliance. The Scientist must be flexible, client focused and capable of working independently under the supervision of project managers. The work required of the Scientist is diverse and ranges from general field support to technical analysis and written work that requires strong communication skills. Typical projects involve assisting private, local, state, and federal agency clients with environmental permitting and/or regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Lead field delineations of Waters of the U.S., including wetlands, and conduct stream assessments
- →Coordinate visits with clients and regulatory agencies in the field.
- →Prepare 404 and 401 permit applications
- →Primary focus is to execute project activities with client and project team and coordinate with regulatory agencies.
- →Complete permit compliance monitoring.
- →Document and summarize results of field investigations and analyses.
- →Prepare plans, specifications, maps, exhibits and supporting documentation for client and regulatory approvals.
- →Provide client and regulatory agency coordination including remedial activities.
- →Support proposal preparation, contract execution, and budget/schedule adherence.
- →Perform technical work and develop project execution strategies.
- →Evaluate site conditions and select wetlands identification, mitigation and regulatory approval strategies.
- →Jobs and locations may require overnight travel and the ability to walk over uneven terrain while carrying heavy equipment
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, Geology, or a related field
- 5-10 years of experience is required
- Professional Wetland Delineator (PWD) or Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) is a plus
- Capability to execute and coordinate environmental assessment activities with internal/external clients and regulatory agencies.
- Experience submitting Clean Water Act 404/401 permits is preferred
- Knowledge of Chesapeake Bay Regulation submittals, Wetland or Environmental design, and a NEPA background would be considered a plus.
- Ability to compose technical reports, memorandums, and other written communication
- Meet project, client, and regulatory deadlines
- Coordinate with state, federal, and local regulatory agencies
- Work in a timely fashion to meet project budgets
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- Proficiency with ArcMap/GIS, AutoCAD, and MicroStation is preferred
- Desire to work in a team environment
- 40 hour Hazwoper Certification a plus.
