Responsibilities
~2 min readThe AV Installation Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, testing, and documenting audiovisual systems in support of classroom, conference, broadcast, and specialized media environments. This role supports the successful deployment of wired and wireless AV systems by performing equipment installation, cabling, integration support, labeling, testing, troubleshooting, and turnover activities while ensuring compliance with technical standards, project requirements, and site safety expectations.
- →Install, mount, terminate, label, and dress AV equipment, cabling, racks, displays, speakers, cameras, control components, and supporting hardware.
- →Assist with the configuration and integration of audiovisual, control, DSP, and network-connected AV systems in accordance with approved designs and technical baselines.
- →Perform cable certification, functional verification, and system-level testing to confirm readiness for acceptance and turnover.
- →Troubleshoot installation and integration issues and document deficiencies, corrective actions, and retest results.
- →Maintain accurate redline updates, equipment records, cable labels, and as-built documentation throughout the installation lifecycle.
- →Support programming implementation by loading configurations, validating device settings, and confirming operational performance.
- →Coordinate installation activities with project leads, engineers, customers, and site stakeholders to ensure readiness and minimize disruption to operations.
- →Prepare systems for user training, turnover, and final acceptance by ensuring all components are installed, documented, and operational.
- →Follow applicable quality, safety, security, and industry standards during all installation and testing activities.
Requirements

- Experience installing and supporting audiovisual systems in commercial, educational, government, or enterprise environments.
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent related experience
- At least five (5) years of telecommunications/electronics vocational training, professional certification from an accredited technical school or equivalent military school
- US Citizenship
- Working knowledge of AV installation practices, including cabling, terminations, equipment mounting, rack buildout, labeling, and system checkout.
- Ability to read and work from drawings, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, equipment lists, and installation documentation.
- Experience with AV control systems, DSPs, networked AV devices, and related hardware platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to identify, isolate, and resolve technical issues in the field.
- Ability to document completed work accurately, including redlines, configuration information, and test results.
- Ability to lift and move equipment, work on ladders or lifts when required, and perform installation tasks in active construction or operational environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Industry training or certification related to AV installation or integration.
- Manufacturer certifications for platforms such as Crestron, Extron, AMX, Q-SYS, Biamp, Dante, or similar technologies.
- AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist – Installation (CTS-I) or comparable credential.
- Experience supporting broadcast, classroom modernization, conference room, or mission-critical media environments.
- Familiarity with applicable industry standards, structured cabling practices, and systems acceptance processes.
This position may require work in classrooms, conference rooms, studios, control rooms, equipment rooms, and other customer or construction environments. The AV Installation Technician must be comfortable working with hand and power tools, transporting equipment, meeting project schedules, and collaborating with cross-functional technical teams in support of installation and acceptance milestones.
