As a Testing & Inspections Field Supervisor, you will lead a team of field technicians responsible for inspection activities, compliance testing, and ongoing projects. In this role, you’ll be the go-to leader in the field, ensuring service operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently while delivering exceptional customer experiences. You’ll coordinate daily workloads, mentor technicians, and act as the bridge between the office and the field—driving both team performance and service quality. This is a hands-on leadership position where your guidance directly impacts customer satisfaction, compliance with fire safety codes, and the professional growth of your team. 

 

Reporting to the Testing & Inspections Manager, the Field Supervisor will act as the representative to technicians in the field, providing leadership, oversight, and technical support related to inspection and testing operations. The supervisor will provide daily updates on project progress, workforce performance, scheduling needs, deficiencies identified, and issue resolution. 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of field technicians, providing direction, coaching, and performance feedback, as well as any personnel concerns or conflicts.
  • Work closely with office staff to improve scheduling efficiency by educating Coordinators and Operations Specialists on inspection durations, technician qualifications, site readiness requirements, and priority handling.
  • Assist office personnel in identifying potential scheduling conflicts, missing job information, incomplete documentation, and follow-up requirements during job review.
  • Provide daily communication regarding field activity, inspection status, deficiencies, reschedules, and workforce needs.
  • Serve as a technical resource for your team, providing guidance on complex or unique system issues.
  • Maintain strong communication with customers, addressing questions, concerns, and service issues proactively.
  • Monitor compliance with NFPA codes, OSHA safety standards, and company service procedures.
  • Track materials, equipment, and inventory to ensure field teams have what they need to complete jobs efficiently.
  • Coordinate and communicate with subcontractors, inspectors, and customers when applicable.
  • Ensure all required tools, testing equipment, materials, permits, and documentation are available for scheduled work.
  • Monitor the development and progress of Apprentices and Technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback, as well as support management by completing additional duties or assignments as requested.
  • Maintain familiarity with sales processes, quoting procedures, and inspection-related project requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong trade coordination, organizational, and time-management skills to support efficient field operations. 
  • Conduct on-site inspections to ensure work quality and technician adherence to company standards.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for after-hours calls, or unexpected team absences.
  • 3–5 years of experience in fire protection field operations, preferably with sprinkler systems.
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA sprinkler codes and OSHA safety standards.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and system schematics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for mentoring team members and interacting with customers.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within your service territory.
  • Ability to work at heights and lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
