The Eastern States Region (ES) is currently seeking a Senior Vice President of Development & Community Health. The physical work location has some flexibility within the assigned territory, which currently includes Northern & Central, NJ; Delaware; Boston, MA; Westchester, NY; Long Island, NY; Rhode Island, and much of New England. 

The SVP is a member of the ES Senior Management Team and is accountable for revenue generation and community health impact activities throughout the territory. The SVP Development will provide leadership to more than 35 staff members and many volunteers in the execution of mission-centered fundraising campaigns for health priorities, with an annual campaign responsibility of more than $14M.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes bottom-line responsibility for divisions' goals within assigned markets.
  • Leads, inspires, guides, coaches, trains, and manages staff to provide targeted, proactive, and effective support for aggressive revenue generation and sponsorship activities.
  • Works closely with Executive Directors and Boards of Directors, to create strategy and vision to get to goal and achieve Community Impact KPI’s.
  • Cultivates effective relationships with donors, supporters, and volunteers by linking the mission to fundraising.
  • Provides working plans to metro division offices, which include campaign, communications, health impact, and volunteer recruitment goals.
  • Actively partners and develops relationships with leadership volunteers, including corporate and community leaders, to ensure they are knowledgeable, engaged, and committed to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and its priorities across revenue and health goals.
  • Secures sponsorships and builds a compelling case to garner the support of donors by linking mission activities to fundraising.
  • Analyzes and monitors campaign progress, communications, and community health, and develops strategies for closing gaps.
  • Monitors financial activities, including income, expenditure, and annual budget. 
  • Promotes positive collaboration cross-functionally.
  • Serves as a liaison and communications linchpin between field staff, regional staff, and the Association’s National Center staff.
  • Ensures that strategies are implemented to manage key relationships. 
  • This position serves as a member of the Senior Management Team reporting to the ES Associate Executive Vice President. The position is responsible for working independently to service the mission through all aspects of the Eastern States Region's work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum seven (8) years’ work experience in fundraising or outside sales experience, preferably with a voluntary health agency, with at least three (3) of those years in a mid-to-upper-level executive capacity.
  • Minimum five (8) years of management/leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, persuasion, and negotiation.
  • Ability to read, understand, and analyze financial data, numbers, charts, and graphs.
  • Corporate event leadership experience with a national not-for-profit is essential.
  • Experience with leading mid-level managers and front-line supervisors is preferred.
  • Ability to train, manage, guide, and motivate staff and volunteers to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to set and achieve ambitious goals with volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to plan and work independently.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have the ability to attend meetings and travel throughout the territory 70% of the time, including overnight travel and occasional evenings and weekends.

What We Offer

The expected pay range is $166,100 to $220,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials may apply to the pay range. American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. This position is eligible for incentives based on achieving certain targets.

Work-Life Harmonization – The Association offers Paid Time Off (PTO) at a minimum of 16 days per year for new employees.  The number of days will increase based on seniority level.  You will also have a total of 12 paid holidays off each year, which includes several days off at the end of the year.
