Under the supervision of a nurse, and with attention to each patient’s developmental needs, this role performs routine patient care activities and delegated clinical procedures as designated by competency standards. The position supports nursing staff by carrying out foundational patient care functions that promote comfort, safety, and overall well‑being. The caregiver demonstrates ongoing skill development by seeking guidance for unfamiliar tasks and proactively confirming understanding when managing more complex care situations.

 

 

 

  • Per diem shifts or contract opportunities available
  • Coverage needed 7 days per week
  • 12-hour shifts (days and overnights)
  • Weekend and holiday availability required based on staffing needs
  • No on-call requirements

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic patient care under the direction of licensed nursing staff, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity
  • Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, feeding, toileting, and mobility, following established protocols
  • Collects and documents routine patient data (e.g., vital signs, intake/output) accurately and timely
  • Observes and reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly
  • Maintains a clean, safe patient environment in compliance with infection control and safety standards
  • Responds to patient requests and call lights in a timely and compassionate manner
  • Demonstrates developing competence by seeking assistance with new or unfamiliar tasks
  • Asks questions and confirms instructions to ensure understanding, particularly in more complex or unfamiliar situations
  • Follows established procedures and direction consistently while building confidence and skill proficiency

 

 

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Active Maryland CNA License in good standing

  • Vocational or Technical Training typically obtained through completion of an approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program

  • BLS Certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network

  • At least 1 year of inpatient acute care experience within the last 2 years, involving hands‑on patient care in hospital or hospital‑level settings, focused on rapid assessment, stabilization, and continuous monitoring

  • Must reside in Bethesda or the surrounding area to ensure reliable commute and on‑site availability for scheduled shifts
