Career TEAM is a leading workforce development organization on a mission to transform lives.  We blend cutting-edge technology with compassionate, high-touch services to drive real, measurable outcomes in the lives of job seekers across the country.  At Career TEAM, we’re solving today’s unemployment challenges with smart software, world-class trainers, dedicated case managers, dynamic job developers, and innovative partners. If you're passionate about making a difference and believe in the power of technology to transform lives, you’ll feel right at home here.

Full-Time, Exempt Employee

At Career Team, our mission is to empower one person, start one career, and serve one family at a time. We do this through innovative software solutions and high-touch services.

As the Director of Engineering, you’ll be the technical leader who turns ambitious ideas into reliable, scalable systems. You’ll own the engineering rhythm of today while architecting the platform of tomorrow — faster, safer, and with only good surprises.

  • Cloud platform and infrastructure: Architect, operate, and continuously harden our AWS environment — EKS, ECR, Docker, and the full container delivery pipeline — so engineers can ship with confidence and operations can sleep at night.
  • Application architecture: Set technical direction for our Node.js services and MongoDB data layer, balancing speed-to-market with long-term maintainability, performance, and cost.
  • Hands-on leadership for large technical projects: Lead delivery of complex, cross-cutting initiatives — in the architecture review, in the pull request, and on the incident bridge when it matters most.
  • Hiring and team building: Recruit, hire, and develop a high-performing engineering team. Build the bench, raise the bar, and grow the culture as we scale.
  • Observability and reliability: Own logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting across AWS — CloudWatch, CloudTrail, X-Ray, and related tooling — so we detect and resolve issues before customers feel them.
  • Engineering operating cadence: Establish predictable delivery rhythms — planning, releases, on-call rotations, and roadmap reviews — that build trust across the company.
  • Security and compliance: Strengthen controls around access, secrets, data, and change management while keeping the team moving fast.
  • Strategy and planning: Translate technical tradeoffs into decisions — capacity, architecture, and build-vs-buy recommendations that help us pick the right direction together.
  • Cross-functional problem-solving: Work hand in hand with product, operations, and client-facing teams when technical issues arise, before they become escalations.
  • Scale the team; build the machine: Help position us for growth and the exciting chapters ahead!

What We Offer

~1 min read
We change lives.
We’re growing quickly and need leaders who want real ownership and real impact.
We’re serious about the outcomes, but have fun making them happen.
Big enough to be interesting, small enough that your work changes the company.
  • You’re fluent in modern cloud architecture and comfortable with the messy middle of scaling fast.
  • You can move from system design to executive conversation without missing a beat.
  • You’re hands-on when needed, but you’re always building people, processes, and tools.
  • You simplify complicated systems and build the guardrails to keep them simple.
  • You anticipate the technical risk before it becomes an outage, and always know your audience.
  • You’re calm, direct, and you follow through.
  • Demonstrated experience hiring, growing, and leading engineering teams through a period of meaningful scale.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with AWS cloud services in production environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Kubernetes on AWS (EKS), container registries (ECR), and Docker-based build and deploy pipelines.
  • Proven ownership of observability stacks in AWS — CloudWatch Logs, Metrics, Alarms, CloudTrail, X-Ray, and structured logging practices.
  • Production experience with Node.js frameworks (e.g., Express, NestJS, Fastify) and modern JavaScript/TypeScript service design.
  • Strong MongoDB experience — data modeling, indexing, performance tuning, and operating at scale (Atlas or self-managed).
  • A track record of hands-on leadership on large, technically ambiguous projects — you’ve been the person teams look to when the stakes are highest.
  • High trust, high accountability
  • We obsess about our customers
  • We value action over perfection, and iterate to get better every day

We offer a competitive compensation package that is commensurate with experience and aligned with current U.S. market standards for remote roles.
