The Specialty Pharmacy Courier is responsible for the safe, timely, and compliant transport and delivery of prescriptions and supplies to patients' places of residence. The role supports pharmacy operations while ensuring regulatory compliance, safety standards, and excellent customer service.
As a member of our team, you will be an extension and the public face of the Pharmacy, showing compassion, patience, and empathy in every interaction. Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Safety
- Follows infection control, safety procedures, and hazardous material handling protocols.
- Ensures safe operation of vehicle at all times.
- Follows all NYS vehicle traffic laws and safety precautions.
- Maintains all preventative maintenance work orders when needed.
- Uses proper lifting techniques during work tasks to prevent lifting injuries.
2. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintains delivery logs and chain-of-custody documentation.
- Ensures proper handling and transport conditions in accordance with pharmacy policies and regulations.
- Supports pharmacy workflow with timely delivery of medications and supplies.
- Adheres to HIPAA regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
3. Deliveries & Transportation:
- Follows assigned schedules and accommodates urgent delivery needs when requested.
- Provides professional customer service to staff and patients.
- Courteous to other vehicles on the road and no valid complaints issued for aggressive driving or vehicle operation.
- Keeps vehicle clean during and after hours of operation. Washes vehicle with supplied vouchers when needed.
- Maintains a professional appearance at all times.
- Wears clearly visible, weather-appropriate Cayuga Medical Center- branded attire at all times while on duty.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Experience:
- Preference two of driving experience with the ability to drive in all weather conditions
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must have a valid NY State drivers license and clean driving record
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred
- Good written and oral communication skills preferred.
- Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
- The courier is responsible for loading and unloading items into the vehicle which include but not limited to boxes, equipment, and supplies.
- Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time while driving. Deliveries will take place during a standard 8-hour workday, in Ithaca and the surrounding Counties.
Location and Travel Requirements:
- Based at Cayuga Medical Center 201 Dates Drive, suite 109, Ithaca NY 14850
- Shift: Full-Time Days FLEX. Anticipated schedule Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm. Flexibility is required to support department needs.
- Local area travel between facilities will be a daily requirement for this role
Pay Range Disclosure:
- Standard Rate of $17.00 to $20.00 per hour
