  Cape Breton University (CBU) is seeking a L’nu Health Lead for Unama’ki College. This is a full-time, limited-term position for approximately one year, with the possibility of renewal.   The successful candidate will be reducing the health inequities between Mi’kmaq (Lnu’k) and non-Lnu'k (Mi’kmaq) in Nova Scotia and to improve the long-term health outcomes of citizens living in community as well as those not living in community. This will be accomplished, over time, through collaboration with Tajikemik the incorporation of Indigenous ways of knowing in health promotion and community health practice, the preparation of Mi’kmaw health professionals, and the support and promotion of Mi’kmaw leadership and self-governance in matters of health and wellness.   The successful candidate will:   Engage and consult Elders and community members throughout the process is key to the success of this role. Build strong trusting relationships with L’nu communities across Nova Scotia (through their Community Health Centres), identify and implement activities and research projects that incorporate L’nu knowledge that promotes health/wellness and supports improved health outcomes. Build community capacity for health promotion and service delivery through the promotion of health professions and recruitment of Mi’kmaw students to post-secondary, professional health programs. Work closely with MINES (Mi’kmaq Indigenous Nurse Educator Specialist) on Campus.   The ideal candidate will:    Be of L’nu descent with residence in, or strong ties to, a L’nu community in Nova Scotia. Fluency in Mi’kmaw language is preferred and will be considered a strong asset for a candidate; Have demonstrated health expertise, L’nu cultural competencies and knowledge, professional links to or within a health research network or community of practice (or both); Hold, at minimum, an undergraduate degree in Health Science or a health profession to include, but not be limited to, Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work. A master’s degree or above will be considered an asset as will a willingness to enroll in graduate level studies in a relevant health field during the time of the Chair’s appointment; Be a strong communicator and team player with interest in providing leadership in building L’nu capacity for health research and health promotion in community; Lead and support initiatives aimed at furthering development of knowledge and wise practices in the areas of nursing practice, education, research, and administration; Work with L’nu communities across Nova Scotia (through their Community Health Centres), to identify and implement research projects that incorporate and gather L’nu knowledge that promotes health and supports improved health outcomes; and Report annually on progress of the Lead’s initiatives.   Applications for the successful candidate will include a:   cover letter describing the expertise of the applicant complete resume list of at least three references.
