About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.

Combining decades of research, top talent, and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And we're working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.

We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised nearly $3 billion in capital, making us the largest and leading private fusion company in the world.

Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as a Senior Financial Analyst

The Senior Financial Analyst will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for providing strategic financial support to our engineering, operations, and corporate functions. This is a highly visible role that requires a blend of traditional financial acumen and modern technical proficiency. You will work closely with senior leadership to drive financial performance, improve decision-making, and ensure the company's long-term success.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in FP&A and business partnering, with a demonstrated interest in using data tools (Power BI, SQL, Anaplan) to automate workflows and provide deeper, more scalable insights than traditional spreadsheets alone.
  • Strategic Financial Planning and Analysis:
  • Partner with business leaders to develop and manage annual budgets, long-range plans, and quarterly forecasts
  • Provide insightful financial analysis and commentary on key business drivers
  • Reporting & Automation:
  • Improve the efficiency of monthly reporting by developing data models and Power BI dashboards
  • Transition recurring manual reports into automated, self-service tools for the broader team
  • Business Partnering:
  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to the leadership of various departments (Engineering, Manufacturing, R&D)
  • Proactively identify and address financial challenges and opportunities, and provide recommendations to improve financial performance
  • Performance Management:
  • Prepare and present financial reports and KPIs to senior leadership
  • Monitor performance against budget and forecast, utilizing Power Query and SQL to streamline variance analysis and data extraction
  • Capital Allocation and Project Analysis:
  • Support capital allocation decisions by providing financial analysis and modeling for new projects, capital expenditures, and strategic initiatives
  • Utilize Anaplan and relational databases to ensure project tracking is accurate and scalable
  • Process Improvement:
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting and analysis
  • Help move the finance function toward more scalable, system-driven workflows
  • Team Leadership:
  • Mentor and develop junior members of the finance team, and contribute to a collaborative and high-performance culture
    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
    • 7+ years of experience in finance, with a focus on FP&A and business partnering
    • Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with Power BI, Power Pivot, and Power Query for financial reporting
    • Systems Experience: Familiarity or direct experience with Anaplan, SQL, and Relational Databases is highly preferred
    • Financial Modeling: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to build complex models while leveraging automation tools to reduce manual effort
    • Communication: Excellent skills in articulating complex financial concepts and data-driven insights to non-financial audiences
    • Adaptability: Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Mission-Driven: A passion for our mission and a desire to contribute to the development of fusion energy
  • MBA or CPA
  • Experience in a manufacturing, technology, or start-up environment
  •
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
