Director, Embedded Software
Responsibilities
~1 min readAs the Embedded Software Manager, you will lead a team of team leads and developers.
Responsibilities:
- →Lead the design and development of our cloud-connected embedded systems; the team develops system software for application development, system integration, user interfaces, and cloud based management
- →Manage team of engineers who are designing new products and supporting our existing installed product base
- →Collaborate with members of the firmware, cloud, hardware, mechanical, regulatory, test, product and support teams during product design and implementation
- →Work closely with the SQA team to build out our automated testing infrastructure
- →Evangelize and promote engineering best practices by actively reviewing software code, design and architecture, code metrics
- →Coordinate software delivery schedules and drive teams to meet committed delivery dates
- →Recruit top engineering talent
- →Lead, coach and mentor direct reports to foster personal growth and teamwork
- →Maintain and foster a collaborative and challenging work environment
Responsibilities

- → Strong system‑level architectural judgment, with the ability to make critical design decisions and own delivery from concept through deployment and long‑term support.
- → Deep technical expertise in Linux‑based embedded systems, including expert‑level C/C++ development and practical use of Python for automation and tooling.
- → Experienced people leadership (5+ years), with a demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and retain high‑performing engineering teams while fostering a culture of quality, ownership, and collaboration.
- → Hands‑on experience with embedded Linux platforms and BSPs, modern build systems, and production debugging in complex, field‑deployed environments.
- → A strong appreciation for secure, connected systems, including cloud integration, networking, and industry‑grade security practices.
- → A collaborative, cross‑functional approach—successfully partnering with cloud, hardware, QA, compliance, product, and support teams to deliver robust end‑to‑end solutions.
- → Commitment to engineering excellence, including code quality, automated testing, scalable architectures, and predictable exAs the Embedded Software Manager, you will lead a team of team leads and developers.
Requirements

- Demonstrated ability and inclination to make critical system-level design decisions and drive projects from start to finish
- 5+ years managing a software development team
- 7+ years of experience in developing embedded system products using C/C++, Python
- Expert-level C/C++ coding in a Linux environment
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent
Preferred
- Experience with Linux BSP platform including, file systems (ext4, UBIFS, JFFS2), sound system, and connected IoT systems, system software
- Experience in asynchronous event driven architecture and developing scalable and latency-optimized distributed application services
- Experience in PCI-DSS compliance secured cloud connectivity applications using HTTPS, Websockets, JSON, XML, Efficient Extensible Interchange (EXI), protobuf, openssl, IPSec, VPN, MAC filters, and network firewalls
- Familiarity with embedded build environments - Yocto, buildroot, GCC, toolchain, Make, CMake, git, gdb, core dumps
- Exposure in connectivity architecture using Wireless (Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC), and wired (Ethernet, CAN) interfaces a plus
- Working with EV / EVSE products is a big plus
