About the Role
~1 min readAt Chime, we believe in the power of our product to help people lead healthier financial lives. The Trust & Safety team is tasked with keeping our members’ accounts safe, providing them uninterrupted access to their money, and minimizing the company’s risk exposure and fraud loss.
This is a high-leverage role at the intersection of risk, growth, trust, and product quality. The team owns outbound transaction risk across card authorization, ACH, peer-to-peer, outbound transfers, and related surfaces — protecting a large share of Chime's revenue while minimizing fraud and disputes and enabling healthy growth.
- Drive strategy to reduce transaction declines and increase purchase volume authorization rates — directly impacting members' experience with Chime, and helping Chime's revenue and purchase volume growth
- Launch new controls for an emerging fraud pattern across a money movement rail
- Redesign a risky decline flow so more good members recover successfully while bad actors are still contained,
- Work cross functionally with analysts, data science, Compliance, Legal and engineers to improve the quality of risk signals flowing into a decision checkpoint,
- Partner with member support teams to make a confusing risk outcome understandable and actionable for members,
- Help launch new financial products safely by designing the right safeguards, fallbacks, and monitoring.
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager
- Deep expertise in payments risk — you understand how card networks operate, including Visa and Mastercard transaction rules, authorization reason codes, dispute and chargeback frameworks, and decline return codes (e.g., Do Not Honor, Insufficient Funds, Card Activity Limit). You can hold a substantive conversation with a risk strategist, a network partner, or an issuer processor about why a transaction declined and what can be done about it
- Proven ability to think strategically about purchase volume and authorization rates , you've connected decisioning logic to revenue outcomes and can frame risk tradeoffs in terms of business impact, not just fraud loss
- A track record of bringing thought leadership to hard, ambiguous problems - you don't just execute on a roadmap, you shape it. You can articulate a compelling vision for how the transaction experience should work and build alignment across engineering, risk, compliance, and leadership
- A strong product mindset and the ability to translate complex risk and platform challenges into clear strategy and execution
- Experience operating in systems with significant policy, operational, and data dependencies
- The ability to engage fluently across member journeys, policy behavior, experiment design, and platform capabilities
- Strong customer empathy and a track record of turning user insights into product decisions — with a particular sensitivity to how declines and friction moments affect member trust and retention
- Strong analytical skills and experience applying machine learning and AI methodologies
- Deep curiosity and a strong sense of ownership
- Experience working in a fast-growing, cross-functional environment
- A passion for helping members lead healthy financial lives
