Beginning Salary: $16-$17
Schedule: Part-Time, 15-20 hours/week; typically Monday-Friday
Summary: Responsible for helping maintain the facilities and vehicles of the district and creating a safe, welcoming environment, accessible to all
Educational and Experience Requirements
Minimum:
- 30+ hours of college or relevant experience
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Preferred:
- Basic knowledge of HVAC
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical concepts
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Buildings and Grounds Maintenance
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner
- Update staff on status of delayed or ongoing maintenance or repairs
- Regularly inspect interior and exterior of branches and address or report immediate and upcoming needs
- Painting and repairs to interior and exterior as needed
- Keep maintenance room and storage shed organized, in cooperation with branch staff
- Duplicate keys
- Change light bulbs, ballasts, batteries, clocks, filters, etc.,
- Provide janitorial services
- Assist in clearing sidewalks and entrances of snow and ice
- Assist in scheduling professional services for facility repairs and maintenance
- Ensure all branches have necessary supplies for relevant facility and vehicle maintenance, e.g., ice melt, windshield fluid, etc.
- Pressure washing buildings, sidewalks, windows
- Maintaining trees and bushes on property
- Pulling weeds, dead bushes, and limb removal
Move Furniture, Fixtures, Electronics, and Materials
- Assemble and move furniture
- Assist with shifting the collection
- Assist with moving computers
- Assist with hanging or moving TV’s and projectors.
- Hang or move art and other displays
- Take items from branches to recycling center regularly
Maintain Vehicles
- Maintain library vehicles’ records
- Coordinate with Outreach department to clean vehicles
- Schedule and take vehicles for oil changes, tire rotations, and maintenance regularly
- Ensure insurance cards are updated and emergency supplies are stocked
Assist in Major Building Projects
- Assist in planning for facility updates, renovations, etc.
- Assist in monitoring facility updates, renovations, etc.
- Collaborate with branch and department managers to address long-term facility needs
- Recommend areas needing attention to Director of Facilities
Communicate with Coworkers & Administration
- Effective, timely, thorough, and respectful communication with coworkers in person, by phone, in writing, or by email
- Effective, timely, thorough, and respectful communication with Administration about scheduling, absences, coworker performance issues, procedures, policies, etc.
- Effective, timely, thorough, and respectful communication with IT on technological issues and the use of the IT ticketing system

While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be expected to do the following:
- Routinely move about or position self to access materials and office equipment on the floor, in bins, and on shelves up to 6 feet in height
- Occasionally move rolling carts and bins weighing up to 300 lbs.
- Routinely position self to maintain equipment under desks, in tight spaces, and on shelving
- Routinely ascend/descend ladders
- Perceive malfunctioning equipment
- Inspect equipment from a distance of 20 feet
- Interact with small and large equipment parts up close and from a distance
- Operate a library vehicle in all types of driving situations
- Work in outdoor weather conditions regularly
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
- Regularly operate small machinery and janitorial equipment
- Regularly operate a computer, printer, and other office equipment
- Able to communicate information and ideas accurately so others can understand
- Ability to use a chainsaw and powerwasher
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic computer skills- familiar with using internet, office productivity software (i.e. Google, Microsoft), and email
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to set priorities, organize, and coordinate multiple projects
- Ability to interact in a positive, effective manner with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public
- Ability to perform with minimum supervision, to work collaboratively in a team environment, and to demonstrate professional standards, good judgment, dependability, and timeliness in work environments
- Ability to adapt to multiple demands and changing priorities and at times accommodate change in work schedule to meet job responsibilities
