The Chrysos commitment and mission:

Here at Chrysos we combine science and software to create technology solutions that are changing the global mining industry; both from a productivity and environmental impact perspective.

Just like atoms and machines, we believe that everyone is different and how individuals come together is what makes us successful. Headquartered in Adelaide and with team members based in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, Canada, Chile and North America, Chrysos Corporation’s diverse team of scientists, engineers and industry specialists are coming together to build technologies to provide rapid, accurate and safe ore analysis for the global mining industry.

The company’s flagship technology, PhotonAssay™, steps around centuries-old chemistry-based assay methods to deliver true ‘atom-counting’ analysis for the measurement of gold and other high-value metals. With successful global installations, Chrysos is taking PhotonAssay™ to customers around the world – Chrysos could take you to places that you might not have even imagined yet. There’s opportunity around every corner and the support to help you achieve your goals.

About the role:

The Physicist contributes to research and development (R&D) activities supporting the expansion and optimisation of PhotonAssay™ technology. The role focuses on executing well-defined technical workstreams, including nuclear measurement techniques, data analysis, and simulation, while contributing to the development of analytical capabilities and supporting the broader physics and product teams.

What you will do:

Execution of R&D Tasks and Projects

  • Deliver clearly defined technical tasks within R&D projects under guidance from senior team members.
  • Contribute to project milestones through timely and high-quality technical outputs.
  • Maintain clear documentation of methods, assumptions, and results.
  • Support experimental campaigns, including preparation, execution, and data capture.

Nuclear Measurement and Analytical Development
Contribute to the development of new analytical capabilities, including:

  • Supporting identification and evaluation of relevant nuclear reactions.
  • Conducting Monte Carlo simulations (e.g. radiation transport, detector response).
  • Assisting in the design and execution of laboratory and field experiments.
  • Supporting detector calibration and characterisation activities.
  • Analysing gamma-ray and neutron spectra and interpreting results.

Analysis Chain Development and Maintenance

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the PhotonAssay™ analysis chain.
  • Assist in implementing, testing, and validating analysis algorithms and workflows.
  • Ensure code is readable, maintainable, and follows established best practices.
  • Identify, document, and assist in resolving defects affecting analytical performance.

Data Analysis and Interpretation

  • Process and analyse experimental and operational datasets.
  • Apply statistical and numerical techniques to extract meaningful insights.
  • Assist in development of data pipelines and analysis tools.
  • Support investigations into system performance and anomalies.

Technical Support and Knowledge Development

  • Develop a strong working knowledge of PhotonAssay™ systems and underlying physics.
  • Support internal teams with technical queries and data interpretation.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and root-cause investigations.
  • Contribute to radiation safety awareness and compliance activities.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and internal notes.
  • Contribute to scientific reports, presentations, and publications where appropriate.
  • Ensure reproducibility and traceability of technical work

Who you are:

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in physics or a closely related discipline.
  • 1-5 years’ experience in a relevant technical or research environment (or postgraduate study).
  • Experience with scientific programming and data analysis (e.g. Python, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently on well-defined tasks and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, particularly for technical content

Desirable

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Nuclear physics
    • Gamma-ray or neutron spectroscopy
    • Radiation detection and instrumentation
    • Activation analysis or related techniques
  • Experience with:
    • Monte Carlo simulation (e.g. MCNP, EGS or similar)
    • Signal processing and spectral analysis
    • Experimental design and laboratory work
  • Familiarity with:
    • Statistical data analysis and uncertainty quantification
    • Scientific software development practices
  • Willingness to travel to operational or remote sites if required.

Who we are (Our values):

  • Safety is a Non-Negotiable - Safety isn’t just a value — it’s our way of life. It’s about creating a culture where physical and psychological safety are top priorities. We speak up, challenge assumptions, and hold ourselves accountable to protect one another.
  • One United Team – We thrive on trust, respect, and empathy. By embracing each other’s unique contributions and supporting one another, we build collective strength to solve problems, celebrate wins, and grow together.
