Responsibilities
~1 min readLead and support Code Compliance Officers while handling complex property maintenance and abandoned-vehicle cases. This role combines team leadership, field inspections and case oversight to help maintain safe, healthy neighborhoods throughout Fort Wayne.
- →Conduct residential and commercial inspections, provide second opinions and investigate unusual or difficult cases
- →Initiate, monitor and review housing cases, including emergency orders, cost-recovery forms, work-plan extensions and litigation preparation
- →Perform quality-control reviews to ensure cases are accurate, complete and handled consistently
- →Coordinate with contractors, City departments and outside agencies to resolve property concerns and complete assigned work
- →Respond to emergency calls, attend neighborhood meetings, assist with department programs and help establish procedures and work standards
- →Oversee daily team workflow, field assignments and coverage for absent officers
- →Coach, counsel, mentor and train Code Compliance Officers
- →Assist with recruiting, interviewing and hiring new employees
- →Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations with manager approval
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- One to two years of related experience or training
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Strong leadership, communication, organization and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work professionally with residents, contractors, attorneys, public officials and community organizations
- Willingness to perform inspections in basements, crawl spaces, attics and other challenging environments
- Ability to work approximately 60% in the field and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
- Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification required within six months of employment
- Police Commission required to enter private property while performing assigned duties
- Valid Indiana driver's license required when operating a City vehicle
- Ability to read and apply policies, regulations, laws and technical instructions
- Strong written documentation, case-management and public-presentation skills
- Ability to define problems, gather facts and make sound, defensible decisions
- Ability to respond professionally to questions and complaints from residents, businesses and regulatory agencies
- Proficiency in English; Spanish or Burmese language skills are a plus
