SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, Tourism & Culture, this position will conduct market research, analyze data, develop strategies, and manage content and visual assets across various media. The
marketing team supports tourism industry partners and the Tourism Hamilton brand; events, public art and placemaking initiatives; and Hamilton Civic Museums with the goal to attract visitors and inspire pride of place among residents.


General Duties

Responsible for the coordination, curation, collection, evaluation, and maintenance of Tourism Hamilton’s inventory of visual assets. Strategically implements visual assets across all marketing channels.

 

Researches the brand landscape to recommend and facilitate content updates for Tourism Hamilton digital platforms, including content planning across websites, social media, and other digital channels.

 

Develops content for, designs, manages and monitors social media tools (i.e., Instagram, Facebook), and editorial tools (i.e., blogs, event calendar listings) for owned campaigns.

 

Utilize collected data to monitor and report on Tourism Hamilton key performance indicators whereby assisting in the preparation of departmental publications, strategies, and digital executions such as the Tourism Strategy, Economic Development Action Plan, and others as required.


Conducts research as required for tourism development initiatives by collecting and analyzing information, identifying the best practices of comparable municipalities, Provincial partners and industry stakeholders.


Assist in the development and maintenance of the Tourism Hamilton website.

Provide analysis and reporting on demographic, economic, tourism consumer, visitor and user experience data for internal use, tourism partner investment inquiries, and digital tools such as web and social.


Utilize desktop systems such as iDSS/Crowdriff in the production of in-house/external promotions.


Liaise with Director, Manager(s) and Tourism staff to develop recommendations for tourism strategies, providing creative and technical support.


Determine the most cost-efficient use of resources in respect of the marketing, research and systems component of the budget (i.e., evaluation of in-house vs outsource options for publications, allocation of software/hardware resources based on Tourism Hamilton and Divisional requirements).


Attend tourism sector functions, media conferences and trade shows as required.

Performs other duties as assigned, which are directly related to the normal functions of this position.


Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.


QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Demonstrated experience in research, tourism, economics, statistics, and/or marketing environment normally acquired through the completion of a Degree or Diploma in Tourism, Research, Statistics, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline and/or a combination of education and related research and data management experience.
  2. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of web-based applications. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and web page applications (e.g., WordPress). Working knowledge of Canva and similar tools is an asset, as is the project management tool Asana.
  3. Strong working knowledge of research, data collection, visual content presentation and editing tools and software will be considered an asset.
  4. Must have superior written, oral and visual communication skills, including experience in creating and editing documents.
  5. An understanding of social media tools and the needs/requirements of the target audience within the Tourism Sector. Experience with Meta, Google, and Later will be considered an asset.
  6. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to relate to peers, superiors and other departments.
  7. An ability to communicate effectively with the public and government agencies.
  8. Analytical, statistical, research, trend analysis and forecasting skills.
  9. Demonstrated time management and project management skills. Ability to balance a number of projects simultaneously and to meet deadlines is essential.
  10. Capable of working independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  11. Proficiency required across a broad range of marketing, communications and public relations disciplines, including planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating marketing plans and strategies.
