We are currently searching for an experienced Mechanical Designer to support our Midwest Region located in Lexington, KY. This is a part-time position.


To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a High school diploma or equivalent.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Interpret and analyze general design requirements provided by engineers, including piping and instrumentation diagrams, piping specifications, stress analysis recommendations, and equipment requirements
  • Use theoretical and practical design knowledge of the oil and gas industry to design CAD 3D models for mechanical equipment and piping systems
  • Review vendor equipment drawing packages and provide comments
  • Obtain accurate field data using 3D scanning or manual measurement methods
  • Manipulate point cloud data to generate as-built 3D models
  • Produce quality, constructible drawing packages per the project scope, including site plans, location plans, piping plans, sections and details, piping isometrics, pipe support details and tie-in details, where applicable
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, client and company design and drafting standards, and industry-accepted guidelines and best practices
  • Perform quality control checks of the work of other designers and drafters
  • Mentor and advise less-experienced designers and drafters
  • Plan and supervise work for designers and other drafting personnel
  • Communicate and work closely with other disciplines with minimal supervision


What you need to have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two-year drafting, design, or industry-related technical degree from an accredited university or trade school preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in drafting, 3D modeling and piping design required
  • 5+ years of experience in oil and gas industry preferred
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, CADWorx Plant and ISOGEN
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
