Climate Fund Managers (CFM) is a leading climate-centric blended finance fund manager. We raise and deploy climate finance funds in partnership at scale and at pace. CFM currently manages two emerging market infrastructure funds focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation: Climate Investor One, a c. USD 1 billion fund focused on renewable energy, and Climate Investor Two, a c. USD 1 billion fund focused on water, sanitation and oceans infrastructure.
Established in 2015, CFM is a joint venture between the Dutch Development Bank, FMO, and Sanlam InfraWorks, part of the Sanlam Group of South Africa with offices in The Hague, Cape Town, Windhoek, Singapore and Bogota.
Role Overview:
The ESG Associate plays an execution-focused role in supporting ESG integration across the investment lifecycle, including due diligence, project development, compliance monitoring, reporting, and training and capacity building of project companies. The role requires greater autonomy, coordination responsibility, and direct engagement with internal and external stakeholders and project companies.
The ESG Associate will report to the Regional ESG Manager in Singapore. The role will be full-time and the role could be based in Singapore, Vietnam or Malaysia with periodic travel to project sites.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Investment Support
• Conduct E&S due diligence including screening, climate mitigation and adaptation assessments, exclusion list checks, and stakeholder engagement.
• Prepare inputs to investment papers, attend investment committee meetings, and support the investment decision process on health, safety, environmental and social aspects.
• Coordinate IFC-compliant ESIA processes and other specialist studies, including prepare RfPs, undertake consultant selection, and technical review of deliverables.
• Support the project companies to prepare construction and operations phase health, safety, environmental and social management plans and procedures.
• Monitor and track compliance with Environmental & Social Action Plans, Gender Action Plans, and other E&S requirements.
• Support design and implementation of project-specific Community Development Programmes.
E&S Governance and Strategy
• Support implementation of requirements to comply with the Responsible Investment Policy, ESMS, Community Development Framework, and related procedures.
• Contribute to ESG tools and templates.
• Conduct internal ESG audits of projects, which will include visiting greenfield, under construction and operating project sites in target countries, and preparation of reports and corrective action plans.
• Support ESG-related strategic initiatives for the Fund Manager and managed funds.
Impact Analysis & Reporting
• Review ESG and impact data for completeness and accuracy.
• Prepare narratives and qualitative insights for quarterly and annual investor reports.
• Conduct desk-based and field-based monitoring, including construction and operations phase audits.
Thought Leadership & Training
• Research and prepare ESG thought leadership materials and presentations.
• Develop ESG training materials for Fund Manager staff and Project Companies.
General
• Maintain ESG trackers, action plans, and project documentation.
• Organise meetings, manage schedules, draft minutes, and provide administrative support.
• Proactively seek opportunities for site-based engagement to gain hands-on ESG management experience.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in an ESG-relevant discipline such as environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or development studies.
• 5+ years’ experience in ESG, sustainability, environmental and social management, or impact investing.
• Demonstrated experience in one or more subject areas: health, safety, environmental pollution control, biodiversity, social, gender, etc. - Demonstrated experience in renewable energy, water, wastewater and/or waste infrastructure projects.
• Excellent technical knowledge of environmental and social risks, IFC Performance Standards, and lender ESG requirements relevant to CFM’s business.
• Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal English; proficiency in an Asian language is a strong advantage.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet challenging deadlines and maintain effectiveness in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted internal and external relationships.
