CMG is hiring a Government Underwriter for Texas. We are looking for a strong VA underwriter with active SAR and LAPP designations. We would like to have both FHA/VA Designations if possible. They will be responsible for the execution of underwriting based on company policy and standards. The Underwriter ensures sound decisions to protect the financial and operational interests of the company.
Must have experience with Texas loans and be able to work Central Time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Underwriter VA and FHA loans by having active government designation (DE/Sar/Lapp)
- Underwrite various other types of loans including Conventional, Bond, USDA.
- Ability to underwrite 45+ initial underwrites per month including Credit and Appraisals.
- Ability to underwriter manual loans
- Communicate regularly with the Loan Officers and/or Processor regarding status of loans via current technology.
- Follows file and check orders as conditions are signed off and new information is received.
- Maintains current working knowledge on current products.
- Leadership with respect to direction of underwriting resources and credit policy execution within team.
- Maintains conversation log in Byte to properly track the forward movement of the file.
- Assists with training needs of other mortgage positions.
- Ad hoc reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years specific government underwriting experience of VA and preferably FHA loans.
- Must have experience with Texas loans.
- Must possess valid LAPP/Sar to underwriter VA loans and highly prefer FHA Chums.
- Recent experience underwriting VA loans.
- Must have demonstrated satisfactory knowledge of DU and LP input.
- Ability to properly interpret DU and LP, communicate and document their findings.
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and email systems.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, fluid environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Proven leadership skills.
- High integrity and confidentiality required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

PHYSICAL and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
This role operates in an ADA compliant office environment, utilizing typical office equipment and tasks including computer work. The position may involve partial stationary positions and moving throughout the day. Flexibility to work overtime to meet project deadlines is required.
BASE COMPENSATION INFORMATION– For residents of the states of CA & CO, and for NY + other areas requiring disclosure:
CMG pays a competitive base which ranges from $90,000 - $105,000+ and Bonus and OT as needed. Factors that affect base salary may include Underwriter experience and designations, overall knowledge, number of years worked in mortgage industry, types of roles performed, computer skills, experience specific to working with mortgage lenders, and education.
